Bendel Insurance assistant coach, Jolomi Atune, has disclosed that returnee Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie was unable to make his return debut against Warri Wolves on Sunday, 30 August, because work on his transfer papers had not yet been completed, Completesports.com reports.
Obasogie was part of the Super Eagles’ bronze medal-winning squad at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper signed for Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars before returning to his former club, Bendel Insurance, ahead of the start of the 2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL season.
Obasogie Misses Bendel Insurance Opener
Warri Wolves profited hugely from a goalkeeping howler to take the lead four minutes after kick-off, gifting Towo Eventus an opportunity to open the scoring against his former club, Bendel Insurance.

The early goalkeeping error raised questions as to why Obasogie did not start the crucial first game of the season for the Benin Arsenal.
“He is still around with us. You know, he’s coming from a club outside of the country. So, time is needed to complete his paperwork and transfer formalities,” Atune, who stood in for head coach Kennedy Boboye during the post-match press conference, explained.
Bendel Insurance Still A Work In Progress — Atune
Atune also said Bendel Insurance are still a work in progress, noting that it will take some time for the new players to blend well with the rest of the squad.
“I am happy we got the important three points. The first game is usually difficult. Our team will get better as the league progresses. I know we will not disappoint our people.
“When Warri Wolves scored very early, I remained positive because I knew we were going to come back and beat them. I believe in the boys we have,” Atune said.
