Former Nigeria senior national team coach, Jo Bonfrere, has expressed strong confidence that the Super Eagles will overpower Jamaica in Saturday’s 2026 Unity Cup final at The Valley in London, Completesports.com reports.
The 78-year-old Dutch tactician, who guided Nigeria’s U-23 side to Olympic gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games following a 3-2 victory over Argentina, spoke exclusively to Completesports.com from his Netherlands base on Friday evening.
He acknowledged the unpredictability of modern football but insisted that Nigeria possess the quality and depth to defeat Jamaica and secure their first Unity Cup title.
Bonfrere’s Olympic Legacy and Nigeria Experience
Bonfrere Jo, who famously led Nigeria to the historic 1996 Olympic men’s football triumph, stressed that his confidence in the Super Eagles remains unwavering due to their pedigree and individual talent.

Nigeria’s Route to the Unity Cup Final
The Super Eagles opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe, with Femi Azzez scoring twice, netting in both halves.
Similarly, Jamaica secured their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over India, courtesy of goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon, setting up Saturday’s decisive clash.
Super Eagles vs Jamaica Head-to-Head History
Nigeria and Jamaica have met six times previously, all in friendly and invitational matches. The Super Eagles have recorded two wins, Jamaica one, while four encounters ended in draws.
Despite the close historical record, Bonfrere dismissed statistical concerns, insisting Nigeria remain favourites to lift the trophy.
Super Eagles Ready for Unity Cup Glory
“Super Eagles are a strong team, not only in Africa but in the world,” Bonfrere said. “They have excellent players — Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi — all playing in top European clubs.

“Yes, I am confident. I have no fears. With good organisation and tactics, Super Eagles can beat any team.”
A victory on Saturday would mark Nigeria’s third senior-level win over Jamaica. A defeat, however, would level the rivalry at two wins each, alongside four draws in seven meetings.
