Former Nigerian forward, Jonathan Akpoborie believes Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze has the potential to help Villarreal unlock Liverpool’s defence and lead his team to UEFA Champions League glory.
Recall that the Nigerian international snatched a dramatic 88th-minute equalizer to send Villarreal through to the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Four minutes after coming on as a substitute, Chukwueze swept home a cross by Gerard Moreno to cancel out Robert Lewandowski’s 52nd-minute opener and send the La Liga side through by virtue of a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.
Reacting to Chukwueze’s impressive performance, the former Wolsburg striker told Completesports.com that the former Golden Eaglets star has the potential to unlock Liverpool’s defence.
“I feel so impressed with Chukwueze’s talents anytime he plays for Villarreal. There is no doubt that he was not at his best at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, however, his performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League simply shows that he’s a great player.
“No doubt he will definitely be a great threat to Liverpool because he has what it takes to unlock their defence and lead Villarreal to the glory.”

We exaggerate too much. Chukwueze came on in the last 15 minutes of the game, he received the ball from a breakout by Moreno and Lo Celso. He scored as any professional would. That’s it, it was not like he was a threat prior to this. In fact, it was the coach’s tactical thinking to bring Chukwueze on when Bayern were pressing the Villareal half for a win that led to the counter attack which Chukwueze with fresh legs and pace capitalised on.
Contrast this coach’s thinking to Eguavoen, who would have played Chukwueze from the start. The coach knew they would be defending against Bayern so he left out Chukwueze – who is not useful defending, until 15 minutes to the end when the Bayern defenders would be tired and Chukwueze could exploit space with his speed and skill.
All these nigeria pundits sef, you go still come tomorrow to tell us sey chukwueze no good just because he missed a scoring opportunity. nonbe so una do simon?
A lot of people spoke of the finishing which was top notch to be honest.But did anyone noticed the great build up from the midfield and the excellent through pass that split open the Bayern defense?

that Aribo guy is a gift to the national team but quite unfortunate Nigeria doesn’t have the kind of technical back staff that can bring out the best from them
Joe Aribo played advanced role in the 2nd leg in Abuja and was ineffective throughout with only sideways passes… These guys cant cope with the physical intensity of African games. Let him go toughen-up and build muscles and strength in the gym. Since he was okay against Ukraine and Brazil, I.dont see whatelse he has done in SE involvement!
Lol. Jimmylie. Aribo can’t cope with the intensity of physical football and yet was how best outfield player on Kumasi. I’m sure Anderson Esiti and Kelechi Nwakali are better. But the truth is that these two will be absent from the super eagles set up till we get new talents.
