The final of the 2025 President Federation Cup, scheduled for June, is most likely going to take place again in Lagos, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has hinted to Completesports.com in Abuja.
Speaking after watching giant killers Abakaliki FC defeat Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Ikorodu City of Lagos at the Bwari Township Stadium, an elated Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau said the NFF has yet to decide where the final will be held but was quick to add that Lagos may host it again.
Lagos State hosted last year’s President Federation Cup final, won by then Nigeria National League (NNL) side El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, who defeated NPFL club Abia Warriors of Umuahia in the final.

This year, the final will be another battle between NPFL side Kwara United of Ilorin and relegation-threatened NNL side—but giant killers of the 2025 President Federation Cup—Abakaliki FC, who have beaten four NPFL sides to reach the final.
“We are most likely going to play the final in Lagos. We are still talking with stakeholders and will inform the public when we arrive at a decision. As you can see, we are doing our best to bring back the glamour of the oldest competition in the country,” Gusau stated.
“The idea is to do our best to bring value to the Federation Cup. As you can see, last year an NNL side got to the final and even won the cup. Now, another NNL club, Abakaliki FC, have reached the final. That is because we are ensuring that the better side wins the cup. We don’t have preferred winners—no favouritism.”
Gusau continued: “Last year, we began the rebranding of the Federation Cup and, as you can see, the glamour is gradually returning. We are working hard with our partners to attract corporate sponsors to make the Federation Cup very attractive. We hope to take advantage of the improvement in the competition to market it and, by the grace of God, you will witness corporate organisations rushing to partner with us.”

The NFF boss concluded by disclosing that the Federation Cup has good monetary packages for the winners, but he would not, however, divulge whether there will be improved prizes.
It will be recalled that last year’s winners, El-Kanemi Warriors FC, carted away the ₦50 million prize money, while the runners-up went home with ₦20 million. The women’s champions bagged ₦25 million, and the losing finalists got ₦10 million.
