Footballers Connect, Chipper Cash and SpringSoca United Team Up To Drive Financial Education At Grassroots Level

In a bid to produce footballers equipped with the knowledge to manage their finances, Chipper Cash, an African cross-border fintech startup aided the players of Lagos-based amateur outfit SpringSoca United with financial education.

Facilitated by Footballers Connect, a platform aimed at educating aspiring footballers, at Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos on Sunday February 21, the event included a session for financial literacy, preceded by training matches with 32 Springsoca United players kitted in Chipper Cash apparels while kicking balls draped in the brand’s colours.

Chipper Cash are AS Roma’s official money transfer platform in Africa, and asides from leveraging on the strength of this partnership to spread joy through football across the continent, they are keen on adding more value to the lives of up and coming football players.

“Chipper Cash aims to help to improve financial literacy amongst these young footballers and give them the financial tools needed to make an impact globally. That is why we partnered with Footballers connect which helps with access to grassroots football to deliver this program,” Abiodun Animashaun, the country manager of the fintech firm said.

With initiatives such as this, concerted efforts are directed into often ignored, but really important aspects of a footballer’s career such as financial education, according to Amos Joseph, the lead strategist at Footballers Connect.

“There’s no better time to bring financial education to footballers other than now,” Joseph added. “We see what’s happening to establish footballers and investment globally. It is pivotal to start to catch them now that they are young so they can be aware of opportunities as well as threats.”

Full of appreciation, director of SpringSoca United Emmanuel Oladapo lauds the partnership that birthed another layer to the football education taught at his academy.

“The Chipper Cash partnership with Footballers Connect is a great development for grassroots football which would spur the football education and orientation of young and aspiring Footballers. This partnership provides room for re-orientation and learning. It’s a project which is born at the right time, ” Oladapo said.

“Our team, Springsoca United, appreciates the support from Chipper through the donation of branded training Kits and balls for the team. This support goes a long way to ease the burden of the team in purchasing such materials. It’s a laudable development, and we are honoured to have received such support from Chipper.”

In the same light, Joseph from Footballer Connect – hopeful and optimistic about the potentials the partnership packs – said: “We appreciate Chipper Cash for deeming it fit to initiate this sort of project and we hope the impact would spread across.”
