Former Ajax Coach Questions Bassey’s Defensive Qualities

Former Ajax head coach, Aad de Mos, has questioned the defensive qualities of Super Eagles star Calvin Bassey.

De Mos, in an interview as gathered by FootballTransfers, posited that Bassey is yet to justify the amount Ajax had to pay for his services.

“Bassey is not an Ajax player for me. And I can’t imagine anyway why you would bring a player from the Scottish league to Ajax,” De Mos, who coached Ajax from 1982 to 1985, said during the Good Morning Eredivisie program.

“He (Bassey) has no speed of action, no insight. And before he has turned, a day has passed. There is no feeling in him.”

The 75-year-old, winner of the Eredivisie title Ajax as coach in 1983 and 1985, also slammed other players who have failed to perform this season.

“Jorge Sánchez is also limited. It just isn’t right in all lines,” De Mos added.

“I see at Ajax that it is not aligned and that a lot of players walk out of their position. If a central defender often has to go to the side, that means that it is not good in the organization.

“That is very bad for the team. You lack structure at Ajax and if that is missing, you can lose to everyone.”

“Every opponent with variation can score against Ajax in this way. Everyone has been able to see it against the big teams. But also just against FC Volendam.”

Stop playing him in central defence, its as simple,it exposes him when they opponent move to his right foot area, he is a wing back that’s were best suits him.

Complete nutter for a so called ex, that can understand the system Ajax plays is what is affecting the whole team. An all attacking system that leaves the defence very vulnerable to good teams like Liverpool n Napoli. This mad man is only pained at the amount of money paid especially to a young black player. He won’t be saying of these nonsense if they had paid peanuts. BASSEY SHOULD JUST CONTINUE TO ENJOY THE MONEY N HIS GAME WHILE AD DE MOS N THE VERY FEW LIKE HIM KISS N HUG WET TRANSFORMERS, THEY ARE IRRELEVANT. In life you care less about what people say, when you’re giving your best with regards to circumstance.

Cry cry @Aad de mos you are a racists go and sit down. Nonsense. Is he the only player in that defense? Ajax is poor this season the earlier you get that into your empty scull the better for you.

The question we have to ask Ad De Mos is this… Is Bassey the problem for the whole team? Na only one man the play team defence?

Over time I have learnt to take comments like this with a pinch of salt.

Isn’t this the same manner in which one Italian pundit or whatever he calls himself condemned Osimhen sometimes last year, saying Osimhen is not worth the amount Nspoli paid? The used every trick in his book to condemn Osimhen, but Osimhen remained focused. Can the racist pundit repeat the same statement today?

This guy seems to be the wisest man in Holland and the entire board and technical department of a big club like Ajax must have been stupid to have splashed such an amount on a black boy, according to him.

This isn’t criticism but condemnation due to hatred and racist tendencies, coming from a supposed 75 year old. Agbaya jati jati.

Bassey is still learning, but for heaven’s sake this guy is playing his second season as a professional, he’s just 21, he’s a defender and Yes he’s black, yet he’s already commanding a 20m price tag and a starting shirt in a champions league team. Someone should tell the Agbaya racist to deal with this.

This for me is where the problem lies. He sees the Scottish League as inferior, and so does not understand why Ajax spent so much money on a player from league. I think Calvin Bassey is good and on his to becoming great if he stays focused. When you consider his age, time is very much on his side to achieving greatness in football. Also I hope the coach at Ajax is the type who will be able to talent and be able to nurture to greatness.
Calvin Bassey, carry go. No mind them. Dem no reach.

  • See his talent and nurture him to greatness
