Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has disclosed that the FA Cup is an important competition for him.
The Spanish tactician made this known ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
Speaking with the club’s website, Guardiola stated that he wants nothing less than “100 percent” from his players’ mentality.

“How many finals have we played in the last few years? How many semi-finals have we played in over the last few years? A lot. That means the FA Cup is always so important to me.
“We’re going to travel to Newcastle to win the game and to get to the next round – definitely, 100%.”
His players have a strong record in the FA Cup, winning 18 of their last 20 matches in the competition over the last four seasons and losing only in the 2024 and 2025 finals to Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
