Arsenal sent scouts to watch RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano in action on Monday night with a view to making a summer bid.
Gunners boss Unai Emery has put a new central defender high on his wanted list and could be ready to make a move for the highly-rated 20-year-old, who impressed in the Bundesliga last season.
Leipzig had one of the strongest defences in the German top flight last season and Upamecano, who is a France under-21 international, was a part of it, catching the eye with some strong displays.
Emery had his scouts check on the player when he turned out for the France under-21s in their 3-0 win over Belgium on Monday night, and reports are growing that a bid could be imminent.
The youngster, who is under contract until 2021, has been offered a new deal by Leipzig, but he has so far refused to sign it, leading to reports he would like to head to England.
The news of interest in Upamecano comes as Emery’s top target Samuel Umtiti is said to have ruled out a move as he wants to stay with Barcelona.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
