Gunners Showing Schar Interest

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a summer move for Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar.

Switzerland international Schar arrived at St James’ Park last summer from Deportivo La Coruna and has become an integral first-team member, making 18 Premier League appearances and scoring three goals.

The 27-year-old’s latest strike in the 2-0 win over Burnley earned him the February goal of the month award and he played the entire 90 minutes in Saturday’s 3-2 comeback victory at home to Everton.

However, the centre-back will be missing for the next two games against Bournemouth and Arsenal after he picked up his 10th yellow card of the season in that triumph over the Toffees.

The Gunners are said to be keen admirers of Schar and it is thought Unai Emery is eager to wrap up a deal when the summer window opens as he aims to strengthen his defensive options.

Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny has suffered with injuries this season whilst there are still question marks over the likes of Sokratis, Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi.

Newcastle only paid £3million to land the Swiss last summer and the Magpies stand to make a big profit on the defender, with reports claiming an offer around £15m will be required.
