Former Super Eagles winger Garba Lawal has paid tribute to the late head coach of the team, Christian Chukwu.
Chukwu , a former Super Eagles captain died on Saturday at the age of 74.
”It’s a sad day for Nigerian football, my chairman, my coach has gone to rest. We watched him play for the national team, while growing up, and it was a privilege to play under him as well,” Lawal told Completesports.com.

“He was my coach at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. A good man and a top quality coach. We had a good time at the competition and came close to winning the title
“I would say he served the country well and contributed his best to the development of football in Nigeria.”
Chukwu captained Nigeria to Africa Cup of Nations glory on home soil in 1980.
He was named head coach of the Super Eagles in 2002, and led the team to finish third at the 2004 AFCON finals in Tunisia.
