Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the new Super Eagle coach Eric Chelle is a coach with a wonderful record.
He made this known in an interview on Arise TV, where he stated that Chelle will be coming with a team of backroom staff, a set-piece specialist, match reader, and goalkeeper coach.
“I got a lot of calls when he was announced. I shook my head because before now, I had already done my intelligence about Eric, and I came to realize that some people do not know him.
“They are just basing their argument on the colour of his skin. They are just being judgmental about the colour of his skin because he’s a black man not the content of his targets and his deliverables.”

“He’s got a wonderful record. When he was in Mali, if you you at Mali the last two years they have been very consistent, consistent in the quality of their play.
“Based on what you have seen, statistics from Mali, out of 22 games, he won 14, he drew four (five) and lost just three, which shows that he is an offensive coach and Nigeria, traditionally, we are an offensive team.
“That has technically, automatically, and organically prepared him for the challenges to come.
“He’s not just a coach, he’s coming with a retinue of backroom staff – a set-piece specialist, match reader, goalkeeper coach.
“He’s also going to be supported by a retinue of backroom staff provided by the NFF Technical Department, so it’s not just him. “

When we win our March qualifiers in some style, all dissenting voices will realign their opinions.
Before we go any further,Mr Pinnick, notwithstanding whether he’s a good coach or not, have you and NFF put a reliable plan in place to pay him and his numerous backroom staff? Or is he going to work for you people for free again?
Mali is now coming to teach Nigeria how to play soccer! Isn’t that wonderful?
Mali don become coach now? You sure say your mumu nor too much for this matter?
A coach born of French father and Malian mother IN IVORY COAST is now “Mali” abi? So, our foreign born players should not aspire to coach in football again because they will be called “NIGERIA” ba, in their coaching career rather than being judged based on their coaching credentials and qualifications.
How many Nigerian coaches who are even excluded from sitting on CAF competitions benches “qualified” (with FIFA coaching badges) as Chelle’s?
His contract is even “temporary” until after the world cup qualifiers that are must win matches many so-called world class coaches avoided with a long pole.
Better tell your local coaches to upgrade their qualifications so that they can aspire for coaching even outside Nigeria or you no dey wonder why we no even dey coach for “ordinary” Sudanese league?
It is not where you’re from, it’s what you know.
Who is Nigeria, that we can’t learn from Mali, or any other country that has proven capable?
We have to humble ourselves. Sometimes in life, you have to stoop to conquer.
And how has Mali “proven capable” in Football than Nigeria, @Pompei? Mali has Never won AFCON, nor CHAN. Never qualified for World Cup which Nigeria has done 6 times. Infact this same coach, Chelle, has almost put Mali out of contention for the 2026 World Cup, losing to Ghana at home and drawing against
lowly Madagascar and Central African Republic, which forced his sack by the Malian FA.
Why is a Mali reject the best to take SE at this precarious time in our World cup qualification position?
So it’s Mali that’s coaching us or Malian? England has tuchel, Portugal Roberto , Brazil the soccer country scouting Carlo, who the F is Nigeria that we can’t hire expatriate to offer us service?
Grow some more senses than to criticize abysmally. Was football discovered in Nigeria? We are talking of individual God given talents here which coach Eric possess and u are comparing countries? Did Maki under him not beat our start studded super eagle in our last meeting? What has our country achieved even more than those countries you call small? Till date you have no steady electricity and no security, No good local coach, but those countries have fast gone past that stage.
Most of you Nigerians should learn to be humble .Allow Coach Eric to breath and he will succeed with the super Eagles .Go and sleep with yr kindergarten analysis.
@ Tony…This purely mumu thinking.
Abeg nor cross road with this your brain oo
HIS RECORD WITH MALI ALONE SURPASSES PESEIRO AND ROHR BEFORE THEY TOOK THE SUPEREAGLES COACHING JOB.
I JUST WANT TO SEE HIM GET STARTED WITH THE CHAN EAGLES AT THE END THIS MONTH. THAT WILL GIVE HIM AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE NIGERIAN TERRAIN.
IF HE CAN SELECT HIS PLAYERS ON MERIT AND ALSO INJECT SOME GOOD YOUNG UPCOMING TALENTS INTO THE TEAM AND PERFECT AN ORGANIC, COMPOSED AND WELL DETAILED STRATEGIES TO HIS TRUSTED PLAYERS HE WILL SUCCEED WITH THE SUPEREAGLES.

Please you don’t need to shout and give us eye ache. We. know and respect your views on this site.
I agree that we should give Chelle a chance to prove himself.
NFF are bundle of disappointment
While can’t they keep Eguavoen at the moment of qualifying for World Cup
Infact they are the problem of Nigeria football
And I have my reasons which I won’t share here…
As big as Nigeria , NFF will be playing with our football
What a pity
If he didn’t deliver and given the respect he deserves
Then all the official should resign
Mind you, let the coach don’t mismanage the players or saying he needs to rebuild the teams
The teams is not needed to rebuild instead find replacement in the position where needed .
If his world cup record with Mali is taken into consideration then im not in support of Chelle.. U cannot give what u do not have. If he had the pedigree of winning world cup matches then be should have shown it with Mali. Keshi did it with Togo and proved it wasn’t a fluke by replicating it in Nigeria.. Lets forget his record in the AFCON ..world is a different ball game. Nigeria may not qualify with Chelle in Charge. I shall remind every one in world..The SE is too big for Chelle
