Indigenous Coaches Can Deliver For Eagles If Given Free Hands –Onigbinde

Former Super Eagles coach, Adeboye Onigbinde has expressed confidence in the ability of the indigenous coaches in the country to deliver for the senior national team if given the free hands to operate.

Recall that several top coaches have applied for the vacant post of the Super Eagles head coach since the position was advertised by the The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the expiration of the contract of erstwhile handler, Jose Peseiro.

Indigenous coaches such as Emmanuel Amuneke, Sylvanus Okpala, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Salisu Yusuf and to mention a few, have indicated interest for the job.

However, the Modakeke High Chief , who took Nigeria to the final of the 1984 Africa Nations Cup, where the team lost 3-1 to Cameroon, told Completesports.com that there are better indigenous coaches who can make positive impact with the Super Eagles if given the freedom.

“I appreciate the last statement, if giving the free hands because that’s the best for the Indigenous coaches for them to succeed. Am I not a Nigerian? Am I the best Nigerian coach? Which means there may be some other people who may be better than I am.

“But then, the people in Authority knows what they want and some Nigerians knows why they want what they want.

“Don’t forget that in 1984 I took the Super Eagles to the final of the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations, even though the team lost in the final to Cameroon. But then, somebody was sent from Lagos to buy the final match. The rest they say is history.”

You choose and appoint a coach according to their track record, these so called indigenous coach are not even on track not to talk of their record.
Whenever we talking about SE job , it’s all about the Ex Players, most of whom are not even attached to any club, when was the last time these guy sat on the bench ? yet they are applying to coach the SE, even the one that is coaching is not doing anything to qualify him for the job.
If you want to talk about local coach, you should be talking about the NPL coaches and not Ex SE players who are still basking on their past football glories, even the NPL coaches don’t look like coaches who are equal to the task.
We don’t have to appoint a local coach just because we want to be patriotic.
If you have the money then put the right people in charge of the team.

Please why come here and type this nonsense here, did you take time to read the chief’s write-up, he never advocate for any ex-players t be the coach. How are we so sure some ex-players applied for the position. Even CSN goofed when they said siasia was a candidate until he debunked such rumors. And what is wrong with the ex-players taking up the mantle, last we check peserio came with a losing record at 2 national teams to be made a coach, so what’s wrong in given a local coach a chance be it from the NPL or ex-players provided they have all the requirements to be a coach. I also believe you heard the high chief say for a local coach to succeed, he needs a free hand, so tell me why all the double standards.

  • Very wrong to call his contribution nonsense. The NFF should go for the very best hand to handle the super eagles. If the best hand is from Europe, Africa or Asia, such person should be given the job

INDIGENOUS COACHES ARE GOOD IF THEY ARE GIVEN FREE HANDS. THE PROBLEM WITH MOST OF THEM IS THAT THEY ARE TOO SENTIMENTAL AND BRIBE-TAKEN IN SELECTING PLAYERS.
ANY INDIGENOUS COACHES THAT WANT TO SUCCEED WITH SUPER EAGLE AND SURPASS KESHI’S RECORD MUST TRY TO BE WELL EXPOSED & BE DISCIPLINED.
      ** HE MUST BE:
      1. RESPECTED BY PLAYERS & KNOW OUR PLAYERS( both local & foreign) AND AFRICAN FOOTBALL
      2. SELF & HIGHLY DISCIPLINE
      3. NOT TOLERATED NONSENSE
      4. ALWAYS USE PRESENT FORM AS A YARDSTICK FOR PLAYERS INVITATION
      5. NOT USING EXPERIENCE/CAPTAINSHIP/LEADERSHIP(that is not fit), EGO, OR SENIORITY IN PLAYERS SELECTION
      7. READY TO IMPOSE DISCIPLINE & COMMITMENT(with characters)INTO THE TEAM.
      8. READY NOT TO WORSHIP ANY PLAYERS & NOT BE INDISPENSABLE OF ANY PLAYERS
      9. HE SHOULD READY TO SEARCH FOR PLAYERS ANYWHERE & NOT USE SENTIMENT OR FAVOURISM IN INVITING/SELECTING PLAYERS
      10. HE SHOULD BE UPDATED & UP-TO-DATE IN FOOTBALL TACTICAL
      11. HE SHOULD STAND FIRM & NOT ALLOW ANYBODY TO BE CONTROLLING OR DICTATING TO HIM.
      12. HE SHOULD READY TO WORK WITH HIS TECHNICAL CREWS
