John Mastoroudes has backed Augustine Eguavoen to stay on as Super Eagles head coach, reports Completesports.com.
Mastoroudes, who was the owner of the defunct Leventis United declared that it would be fatal for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hire an expatriate now.
“Eguavoen should stay,” Mastouroudes, who served on the Presidential Task Force (PTF) that ensured the Super Eagles qualification to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa told Eagle7.fm.
“It will be fatal to change him now.
“He can qualify the country to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“After qualification, the question would be can he lead them to win the AFCON.”
The 59-year-old took charge of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The former defender earned plaudits for the team’s impressive display in both games.
Nigeria defeated neighbours Benin Republic 3-0, and battled to a 0-0 against Rwanda.

It’s all for good having an indigenous coach, a coach with a very good relationship with his team of assistants and players as well. A football tech with results to show while in current.
Egu and colleagues should be given a four year appointment. Among the conditions are
1. He must qualify SE for Afcon
2. He must strive to qualify us for the World cup but irrespective of the outcome, -win or lose.
3. He must be encourageous to local players and do endure we have at least 4 local players in the national team.
NFF original plan is in progress more NFF agent will join the motion. I hope Eguavoen will truly resign as technical director so we know this is a one way employment and final tenure with the NFF.
The NFF constitution if you’re conversant, permits the Tech director to also role as a coach. What I think the NFF will do is to offer the interim manager more years.
I don’t hate Eguavoen but I also don’t like him as the coach because he doesn’t win trophies.
Eguavoen has done well, God bless Nigeria.
In my own opinion, Coach is now not problem of Super Eagles. The players only need to be more determined.
If NFF tries to hire Eguavoen as the new Super Eagles manager, he will sink the Super Eagles.
Let me take you back to Nigeria vs Ghana.
Amao was in the deep form of his life, and a very talented young player was not allowed to play a minute, but in the end, Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Not only Amao then, we had so many players, but Eguavoen is not the kind of coach who is transparent.
He repeated his attitude against Benin and Rwanda.
Why did he invite inattentive players to camp?
Why Ayoniyi when Dessers was fully fit and ready to make Nigeria proud?
Why Oshimen was invited in the first place, but the man made him available.
If Oshimen is not available, are there any other reliable options?
Boniface is a fantastic striker, but African football, or national football, is different entirely from club football.
This is why I am laughing at those who want Okoye to replace Nwabali.
Okoye is not fully mature enough to man the post for the Super Eagles. He is for the future.
Does Okoye have a lion’s heart? Can he withstand the pressure from Super Eagles fans?
What is it to man the post for Super Eagles is beyond staying in front of the post.
However, Eguavoen is not the type of person who can achieve more than what he has achieved in the past. If he can change that bad habit of not selecting players based on current form, there’s no way he can take the Eagles to the promised land.
Also, as a good coach, plan A and B are so essential to win matches. You can’t just have a plan A and go into a game or a tournament.
This is why I am advocating for Siasia. Sia1 will select the best players we have, and equal rights are not negotiable. This is why we need to consider Siasia.
We all know that Sia1 is capable but they are trying to destroy the gentleman.
I believe I’m speaking sense kę.
However, they called him a criminal, but is there any proof to back your point? If none then Sia1 is for the job. I’m not here to cover for Sia1 or anyone, but if we can’t fix it, then we should not break it. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
I didn’t want to dignify your comment with a response because Dessers in 2024 was a “no-reply” kind of email. But SiaSia was a no-no. Eguavoen is already a ticking time bomb because NFF thinks they can have their cake and eat it too, as it currently plays out.
I blame CAS for “stooping so low” to overrule FIFA on that case. 5 years out in the wilderness still means “no proof” for you?
Hahahahaha leave them.
When an appelate court finds you innocent of a crime, rather than discharge and aquit you outrighly and let you walk home free, they will still tell you…..erm bros, you see, we know you are innocent ehn…but biko, you will epp us go to jail for 5 years.
And then you too knowing you are completely innocent will also volunteer to go and live in jail for 5 years and have a criminal record under your name….LMAoOO
Are you not shocked? I read even two days back the “innocent” coach says he would sit down to iron out a contract if glasshouse approaches him. I was “overghasted” and “flabberwhelmed” with the audacity. Then I remembered that it is the NFF noted for classless notoriety that we are dealing with. Nothing should be surprising from that shabby organization. Perhaps, there is something substantial from the so-called clamour and they are testing the waters. Phew!
So Nigeria really can’t produce new breed of coaches if it is going “local” that we suddenly want a “serial loser on 4th stint” as the next good thing after sliced bread and now a “non acquitted” half a decade wilderness-experienced coach (coach is too heavy a word because we can see what prolonged inactivity is causing in Heartland bench) want to also be on the saddle?
Are we thinking with our feet and feel we are progressing?
I warned Amuneke that Heartland Job is not a good platform for his status. He should be coaching a team like Remo Stars whose squad and football philosophy will benefit both parties.
All I know is that if Siasia is returning, Salisu too should return to the SE technical crew.
Afterall he’s been actively coaching ever since he served the 1 year ban imposed on him by the NFF.
Wow, so you would rather have him banned for life, even when not given a hearing. How wicked can you be. Even CAF said their was not enough evidence to warrant a lifetime ban. The man has repeatedly said he didn’t do it and you can’t even give him the benefit of the doubt. So because he didn’t respond back to FIFA’s email, does that makes him guilty, have searched everywhere to know exactly what he is being accused off? All am seeing is he spoke with a match-fixer. Maybe you have full details of what he is being accused off. Well he said he is suing FIFA, so I would rather wait to hear the outcome of that case
Haba Dessers again!I also pushed for his inclusion in the team but it is quite apparent that he is not good enough. Let sleeping dogs lie I beg!!
Dessers is good just that Nigeria coaches are corrupt. Against Mexico where he scored and nobody showed up. But as soon as Awoniyi even if unfit is available Nigeria doesn’t call Dessers. I wish he waited for Dutch.
My concern is that our local coaches away win ratio is small. In the current situation of the SE, we need to win both home and away matches in the world cup qualifying matches. I am not carried away by Eguavoen’s initial “gra-gra”. The AFCON hosted in Cameroon a couple of years ago is a quick reminder. He won all the group matches but was defeated by a depleted Tunisian team. Though I appreciate the fact that he had to come to terms that his 442/424 table soccer formation may not be it after all.
You got it right on our home-based coaches struggles in winning away from home,it gives me concerns knowing we must win most of our remaining games if we must qualify for the next world Cup after a slow start..
I think this struggles originated from our mentality of playing for a draw away hoping to finish the job at home.
Most of our domestic games in the leagues have high home win ratio compared to away victories which is minimal..We have suffered severely in caf club competitions because of this struggles. We play for a draw away but end up losing when home victories aren’t even guaranteed..
Had we had Rohr in charge against Rwanda,we would have won emphatically with the domination we had.
My mate put a bet of £5,600 pounds hoping a sure victory for Nigeria in the east African country after we had whitewashed Benin 3nil,what an irony!A painful loss!!Better luck next time!
Your friends name must be Akpan because Oduma will not make this error.
It no doubt clears that Super Eagles team would like an excellent man management who let them to play freely and a one who close to them has a nice humbleness and effect to push them to produce impressive game , all these attributes have been found in vetern coach Augustine Eguavoen who has experience on how to deal with the players as ex SE veteran captain John Obi Mikel has described Eguavoen as a man management and he is humble and lovely , he put his shoulder around SE players so that he direct them on how to do the job; so I think NFF should hire him as SE permanent coach till the next AFCON. in Mororcco 2025 , also he can lead SE to the World Cup 2026 if NFF do somethings to back him ; these things as follows: he should be dealed just like foreign coaches , NFF must pay him about $ 50000 with his assistants, NFF must release his hand to any thing which benefits SE , NFF must hire him with a long contract with good conditions for him and his colleagues, NFF should allow him to hire foreign assistants; wrt for him he should summon the players to SE with quality and merit not on sentiment , he should put an excellent formation for SE just as he is doing with it now , formation 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 thoes are two suitable formation for SE to play with it makes equilibrium between defence and midfield and attack, also he should put plan (b) to realize a win if the team on critical position, he should correct his former errors and faults which have banished SE from AFCON. 2019 in Cameroon round 16 by Tunisia , also have banished SE from final World Cup Qatar 2022 by Ghana , these errors that he hasn’t put an excellent defensive midfield , also he hasn’t put plan (b) to win the two matches above mentioned…
Beating BENIN republic is now a criteria to grade a good coach? We have a bunch of jokers as football administrators, and even some fans. Even if a MIKEL OBI who never coach sit on the bench at home against BENIN if the players are in their right mind the team will win.
You won against BENIN at home and then draw a RWANDA away and everybody is singing his praises, even clamouring for 4 years contract for him? I read the other day someone claiming Eguavoen is better then Peseiro, we have too much of comedians in Nigeria Football, that is exactly why its been stagnant year in and out.
Exactly the warning I gave previously that he will win the Benin match and NFF will give him the job to cover their shady misappropriation of Caf money.
If Augustine Eguavoen Must stay on he must revisit and Brush up on his Coaching Licisence when his backs against the wall and Nigeria needs something he does not deliever. He is too hasty in his decision making and never really gets his substitutions right and timing as well, he killed an important WC qualifier against Ghana in a knock out series like that, bringing on Dead legs when we needed a goal most, he then took off Ndidi and Bashiru also Boniface when he crashed the bar in fist half of the Rwanda game. Bonifce and was showing intent for 2nd the half only for Eguavoen to hall him off at the start of it, this is the poor decisions Eguavoen makes and just not choosing the right personel
Please who was Boniface subbed off with? Wasn’t it Osimhen?
You minding this confused person. Was that not how they argued during finidi’s time of not giving him enough playing time. Imagine if Oshimen had not played in the game, we no go hear word
