Nigeria U17 is 1-goal down in 3 minutes. I doubt this team will make it beyond the group stage. Anybody remember that Manu Garba didn’t do well in New Zealand 2015 as well? I hope the team will prove me wrong though.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

      2-1 against Nigeria so far

    • I believe we will win this match 3:2 or a draw 3:3

      • Naija Man 4 years ago

We won. Congratulations. And thank you for your polite response to my comment. It is an indication that you are mature contributor.

  • please can someone give me link to watch the match live

  • Sunnyb 4 years ago

Garba, why why why, this’s the best team u can assemble ?

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

He did the same thing in New Zealand 2015 with the same Ihenacho, Success, Yahaya and Nwakali. The team crashed from the group stage. This one will not be an exception, mark my words. They didn’t do well in their pre-tournament watches either.
Hungary just scored their 2nd goal against us.

  • It may be just the first match but i see that these boys a not a champions stuff. I doubt if they will scale the group stages.

  • please can someone help me with the link to watch the match

  • Naija Man 4 years ago

One lesson I want us to learn here as fellow Nigerians is that anytime our age grade does well in a tournament, let us desist from labeling them as over-age. From the team photos, the Hungarians look taller and older than our boys. I have also seen south american age grade players that appear older than their age but I don’t hear their own people shouting over-age.

    • Bomboy 4 years ago

Thank you Naija Man. You are soooooo right.

      • Naija Man 4 years ago

I have European & South American U17 players with mustache/facial hairs. Check the photo of Berisha (not sure the spelling) who wore the #9 jersey for Sweden at Qatar 2013.

  • Don’t seems to know what this lads are playing. They are getting in each others way. Too much selfish play in attack. Everyone wants to score. The 2 fullbacks are suspect.

  • Proudly 9ja 4 years ago

Guys let’s be positive as these are kids and moreover it just d 1st half and in all honesty our boys are dominating them. it’s just some mental lapses from d defense line. The left back needs to be aware position wise. The boys are doing ok in my opinion and Hungary no come sell epka for Brazil. I see us winning this game and dis team exceeding expectation. They will keep getting better mark my word.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

I doubt it sir. It will be a miracle if we qualify from this group, mark my words. Our U17 is a winning team on the world stage and anything short of that is foreign to us.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

Yes, you won. I was just not happy at the lack of coordination that I saw when I first tunned in. I still have my reservations about the team though.

  • JimmyBall 4 years ago

i saw manu garba worried and nduka ugbade relaxed and smilimg… anyone would realised these set of boys are not talented… they are just players from clubs owned by cronies of the teams handlers… they want to promote them to sign europeans contracts and get their own percentage…

  • Wilson 4 years ago

The problem is with the coach himself. Trying to live on past glory and that is why you get such selfish play. When you assume you’ve won a game before it is played. Can’t see anything of a champion in this team as of the first 45 mins. Let’s hope they surprise us in the second half.

  • Bobo Colorado springs 4 years ago

Are you guys watching the same game I am watching? this is a good Nigerian side, good play, good possession , good dominance, infact, I am impressed regardless of the score line, I am tipping them for the cup, this is just the first game. The Hungarians are just playing rough and waiting for an opportunity to just score. The only problem with manu garba’s team is always the defence, and you can see that the 2 goals by Hungary were defensive errors, apart from that is a good team, and observation is based on what I am seeing, and that is my opinion.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

I disagree with you sir. This is the worst Nig U17 I have ever seen. We may not qualify from that group.

      • Bobo Colorado springs 4 years ago

With due respect Naija man, let us see to that after the tournament.

        • Naija Man 4 years ago

You are right sir. We won. Thanks for your mature and optimistic response.

  • Doom doom doom!!!!! You guys have fun with Garba manu rubbish coaching. No diversity in selection, no professional based selection, no brain at all. This nonsense always happens when you select players base on tribe, religion, money change hand and sectionism. Una just dey pray bcoz disgrace dey come. God dey.

  • One thing I’ve come to know about naija fans is that if a coach once did well they continue to sink or swim with him based on past glory neglecting his recent achievement/antecedents…

When I first spoke about the I’ll treatment metted out on Lateef Omidiji in particular and foreign based kids in general b4 the u17 AFCON fans vehemently defended him that he isn’t corrupt, did same during preparation 4 d Wyc and same fans turned a blind eye

    My question now is:
How are those picked better than those dropped?
their physicality that was even the main excuse for picking them is even absent…
Manu Garba and his cohorts must also be probed 4 his selections of late since new Zealand u20 till date same as my edo brother Aigbogun with his Sambora 11

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

Thank you for re-visiting New Zealnd 2015 and Ireland 2019 U20 with Aibogun again. Based on what I am seeing this lads play, they are not going anywhere in this competition. They are having a difficult time to get goals.

    • Well if omidiji is that good, why isn’t he in the dutch team, We are not the coach. And i believe one of manu garba’s complaint about him was that he wasn’t physical enough.

  • PapaFem 4 years ago

The only weakness of this team is their defence. Their transition, movement on and off the ball, speed and skill are top notch. If they can survive the group, they’ll go far in the competition.

  • Bobo Colorado springs 4 years ago

let the game finish first before we start complaining and condemning.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

Well, na for eyes we dey see the fufu wey go belle full. This team is poor. They keep running into each other and lack the football intelligence of previous U17 teams we have ever taken to the World Cup.

  • Naija Man 4 years ago

See how the tempo of the game changed after Garba introduced Akinkunmi Amoo? It is corruption that makes a coach keeps his best player on the bench at the expense of collective glory of over 200 million people

    • Joel Chidi 4 years ago

@naija man, you are a clown. You are not a fan. Just a clown. If you watched this match you will notice the beautiful transitional play of this team. He introduces a player and you say it’s corruption that made him bench him? You are impossible. Just STFU if you don’t have any tangible thing to say. Fair weather fan. Nonsense and buhari

      • Naija Man 4 years ago

You can counter my argument by argument and not name-calling. Please don’t disrespect me. I am not be a fan in your own definition but I love the team and my fatherland. Thank you.

  • A youth team does well when they get goals but this team has had difficulty getting goals since it’s assemblage. If a youth team doesn’t defend well and can not get goals, the possibility of them going far is usually scanty and they may not be mature enough to receive on the field technical imput from coaches. That’s the reason a good coach would build his youth team to be straight forward from the beginning. I will be shocked if this team goes far in this tournament.

  • Well, its 2:2 can nigeria win this?

  • Nigeria just takes the lead

  • 2 goals in three minutes has turn it around

  • It has now turn on its head’ its nigeria 4 goals now to 2

  • Full time, naija won this one, left it late, but now they can kick it on

  • My people y’all are missing a point, these are youngsters, it is allowed to make mistakes. Las Las the golden eaglet still come good. Congratulations boys. Up Nigeria!!!

  • Finally,

I wonder why Amoo was on the bench, he is a creative player. I hope the Garba talks to the 2 fullbacks, they are real suspect. Great game anyways

    • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

@Ade, Remember, those two left backs were also the ones who made up our Come-back into the game. Applaud them especially ADENIYI(No.2). He is so young that he falls to the ground everytime he kicks the ball so hard…lol. Even after he scored the 3-2, he stumbled badly and fell. He managed to finish the game. Though, truly they need to work on there Defensive attributes but as per supporting the attack, they did so well.

  • Proudly 9ja 4 years ago

Guys I said it that this team will exceed expectations and many fans will eat humble pie. Someone mentioned that when a coach dies well we tend to sink and swim with dat coach, I think in Manu’s case I will offer him dis job over and over again, most European countries stick with a youth coach for a long time as they want to establish a soccer philosophy. Germany, Spain, France dats what they do and dats why they have been successful at senior level. If I was a member of d NFF I would ask Manu to write a blueprint of d techniques he uses to unearth players essentially a step by step guide on how coaches should develop players. If Manu was a European or North American he will be a hero. Look at the SEhe has had a hand in many of d players who have donned d eagles Jersey I think more than any indigenous coach I could be wrong. Anybody who watch this game and isn’t biased against d team already would agree that if d SE can dominate team d way these eaglets do we will be very hapi. Don’t get me wrong there are areas in d team dat needs work especially d defense and they will get better as d tournament progresses. Hungary a qualifier from Europe could only manage less than 7 shots with only 3 on target for 90 mins. Their goals were just mental lapses day can be easily corrected. Kudos to d super eaglets go do what u do best WIN

    • I don’t have qualms with manu’s technical/tactical nous, noooo, I am against his player selection for tournaments

  • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

The Only Good thing I picked from this match is THE IMPRESSIVE DUO of Captain Tijani and AMOO(Little Messi). The Coach got his substitutes right. The touches the boys made in the Middle to the Attack was top notch. BUT the Defence ooo, Chai! That Defence is wack! Had it been it was an all-attacking team like us that we met today ehn, they would have noticed that and used it against us well. Work on the Defence. Start Amoo next match with Olusegun cuz he was impressive too. And Coach Garba should tell those boys to be Unselfish in there play! Am sure I wasn’t the only one that saw what happened in that last kick of the game… I was so pissed off! Just for that boy to release the ball to AMOO, he held on to the ball till he was dispossessed. So annoying. I belive if the Coach works on the defence, Work on the understanding between the Strikers, The Team will SOAR in this tournament. My Man of the Match is TIJANI

    #SOAR GOLDEN EAGLETS
    #Your No.1 fan

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

Thank you for your mature response. I saw how the kid ran with the ball but refused to release it to the guy on the right. I also questioned the coach’s decision to put Amoo on the bench. He did the same thing to Ihenacho and Nwakali at New Zealand 2015 even when we were losing against Germany.

      • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

Bro, nothing like New Zealand 2015 oo! Ihenacho and Co. played in UAE 2013! under Garba.
While Nwakali Jr, Oshimen and Chukwueze set played in 2015 coached by Amuneke and also won. 2017 was staged in India which we failed to qualify. I see you guys have been making that mistake since.

        • Lord AMO 4 years ago

The U-20 world cup in 2015 in New Zealand is what he is referring to.

  • Proudly 9ja 4 years ago

Guys when watch d game una see how Hungary pack bus, that was d reason we didnt score more in d game. The had 6 at d back most times and our boys still scored 4. Who says dis team can’t score goals, goals full dis team once dem click watch out.

  • Crownman 4 years ago

A typical Naija fan nowadays has lost the right spirit the fans used to carry and embrace an impatient culture. The tournament is still fresh, and I believe the Organizer rate the Naija team high in football entertainment to have played them concurrently with what was to be an opening match initially, i.e Brazil vs Canada.
We could have waited till the final whistle before concluding on those boys. If at all they lose this match, their statistics shows they are a winning team. Imagine a ball possessing of 61% to 39%, 22 attempts: 9shots on goal, 9shots off targets, 4shots blocked, compared to Hungarian 5 attempts? It’s a far cry. This team wont just do well, they’ll go far in this tournament.
Please, let’s embrace trust and allow Patience to thrive when we operate as a typical Naija fan.
    Thanks and God bless you.

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

Thanks for your mature response. I ate the humble pie:)
I wrote them off after seeing we were trailing 2-1. Nevertheless, I still maintain my reservation that we many not win the trophy this time around.

      • Gajere 4 years ago

Your reservation was not that we may not win the tournament. It was that the team may not even get out of the group. As per your angst that Amoo was not played from the start, have you considered that it could have been tactical? If tactical, it paid off handsomely. Patience, brothers, patience.

  • Ikeben 4 years ago

Congratulations to U-17 Eaglets. I see,you improving with each game.
Lesson learnt from this match. Watch a,football match to the end before condenming or criticizing, you may be made to eat your words. Football is still a game of 90mins.

  • Christopeher Okeke 4 years ago

please where the man that call his name Naija man.. Some times I wonder why some people will come here and begin to rant rusbbish when you watch a football match you wait for the game to end before you give your accesement, even when somebody corrected you you still went ahead and curse the coach and the team that they will not go far… So I want to ask you now how far… In Compettion like this and in a first match relax and observe and see how things play… DNT come and talk rubbish when the game is on.. Hope you learn next time.. That is why it called football any thing can happen

    • Naija Man 4 years ago

I am glad the team won. My expectation was that we will overpower the Hungarians. And after I tuned and saw we were behind with our guys playing selfish games, I couldn’t stand it. But I need to mention to your likes that you can respond to people’s argument without being insulating. Retorting to insults on a forum such as this is an indication of immaturity. You may be more experienced than me in reading football games and that is fine. But I will only appreciate that superiority when you lay down your thoughts in a civil manner. Go and read my comments above where I replied to the people that predicted that we would the game. They were right; I was wrong. It is as simple as ABC.

  • Omo9ja 4 years ago

Congratulations to our Golden Eaglets. They did a great job against a disciplined and difficult Hungarian’s team.

Though, I didn’t watch the full match but what I saw in less than 30 minutes of the match in the second half was awesome. So therefore, Eaglets will get much better as time goes on.

    What I really enjoyed most
    about Manu Garba’s team in
this match was a collective work.
    They covered foreach others.

Now, the confidence is back and 3 points already in their locker now.

The only fear I’m having is the coach.
There’s too much pressure on him because those dictators won’t allow him to do his work. NFF, be careful oo.

I’m really impressed that the coach soaked the pressure and refused to use one of the dictators son that they false on him.

Last but not least, I saw 9ja spirit in this team. Yeah, never say die Nigeria spirit.

Finally, Eaglets broke the bad luck of the dark Jersey. Coach Garba and Ugbade, hi five.

What the white men failed to do, the black men can do it much better. It is time for us to promote our own. A word is enough for the wise. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

I was expecting you to narrow your write up about the U-17 poor defense to Coach ROHR as usual but like he skipped your mind today..Alase

      • Omo9ja 4 years ago

Lolz. @Chairmanfemi, ęyin omo o ode sinyi, ari fin yin ma po o. Matagbamolę o.

Mind you, I love coach Rohr more you think. If coach Manu fumbles in this tournament, i will asked him why.

I didn’t want to go there before but you have opened my mouth young man.

Look at the way Manu Garba’s team reacted in that match and compared that to coach Rohr’s team against Ukraine and Brazil?

Recently, Super Eagles played against Ukraine and Brazil ba?

Why coach Rohr’s only good for 45 minutes?

Why coach Rohr’s team had it difficult to protesting their lead most especially whe they were leading against Ukraine and Brazil?

Look at the coach Garba’s team, they new what they had to do when they were leading.

They were playing the ball around with a purpose and vision.

Let’s use that Hungarian team as our Super Eagles team.

They were tactically disciplined but not
        tactically wise a enough.
The Hungarian coach did the mistakes Oga has been doing for a while and coach Manu and his troops studied their opponent and nailed them hard. Did you for the different now?

That was an excellent job from our coaches.

You can see now that with coach Rohr, Eagles may not win any gold medal because he believes that it is an abomination for Eagles to win against the likes of Ukraine, Brazil and every top team. Hmm…. how market Chairmanfemi? Sętadię lol.

Why? Because we are Africans I guess. An African team do not deserves to beat top teams.

That is why I said we don’t need such a coach.

He have to change his mentality for him to achieve something great for Nigeria.

I’m sorry for so many of you that believed the coach still have something to offer Nigeria. NFF are just fooling us around.

Are they ready now to send the coach for a refresher course? Ę, ofe e, liars. They are 419.

So therefore, Ukraine and Brazil matches were my two witnesses. Go back and watch those two matches then you understand me węla.
        God bless Nigeria!!!

  • I believe in this team.
They will be Champions or go down only to the Champions.
    MARK MY WORDS
This is not “my young team”

They have got the RAW NAIJA MENTALITY , THE “Who you be” attitude.
    The “you won try” mentality.
ORIGINAL NAIJA NOYS WITH NAIJA COACHES.

    CARRY GO BOYS.

Success in this tournament is not measured by who wins it.  in fact success can’t be measured for at least another 5 years if and when any of these lads are plying their trades in top clubs and adequately representing the super eagles.  For one of the first times I saw a truly young team making young player errors but never giving up and exhibiting that true Nigerian fighting spirit.  They may not be as skilled or fluid as past teams but remember past teams were filled with over aged players.

For some of these guys, this exposure on the world stage is just the confidence boost they need to propel them to greater heights.  They are kids for goodness sake, can we stop with the insults and negative comments.  Support them all the way

  • PapaFem 4 years ago

Many of us here comparing Manu to Rohr have forgotten that coaching SE is a different ball game.

At U-17 level, players tend to be humble, energetic, disciplined, hungry, obedient, teachable and ambitious. They are ready to do whatever the gaffer asks them to do to make his squad and the first 11.

Their target are big European clubs and they won’t mind getting flogged to gain access to that platform that’ll announce them to their target European clubs.

Their egos are still small, no Ferrari to display yet or a big mansion to brandish. For some of them, their parents still have debts to settle back home for sending them to camp and bribe some officials to be called to camp in the first place.

Reason you see them play like possessed beings and are ready to die on the field of play. Once they secure the contact they want and money starts flowing, egos set in with noticeable laxities and complacency. That’s what Rohr is battling as a senior team coach. He has many players in that category to deal with in the national team while Manu has humble, self motivated players that are ready to be moulded to anything the gaffer wants.

Did anyone notice that Manu achieved practically nothing as an U-20 coach, even with many of the players being those he trained at the U-17 level? Then, it was not the Iheanacho of Taye Academy again or Isaac Success of BJ Foundation. Things had happened which had changed the entire narration.

If Manu is given the SE to manage today, many of us praising him today will come back here to crucify him. Only few coaches have carried their form from junior level to the senior one. Even at that , you can’t compare what is achieved at these two levels because the demands are quite different.

Let’s be very fair in our assessment because every coach has his limitations, depending on the peculiarity of the team being handled.

    • Omo9ja 4 years ago

Well spoken bro but I disagree with on that.

No1. The team must be disciplined
No1. Rules and regulations must be in place for senior national team and the rest of them.
No1. What did we achieved globally that the coach wouldn’t control the ego of his players?

How Brazil, Germany, Argentina and other Countries are able to manage their team?

our NFF need to respect themselves first. Then, the coaching crew.

We are talking about the tactical issues here.

There’s no way we could compared under17 to Super Eagles but these our under17 coaches are technically sound.

All the NFF have to do is to upgrade the to be fit into the main team.

Did you see that never say die Nigerians attitude?

How about the tactical apply in the second half?

Please, now excuses. Oga Rohr need help. God bless Nigeria!!!

My broda your analysis is spot on and for me I completely agree with all u said. For me I think Manu should be left with the U17 to help in unearthing future talent for d SE. The NFF should pay him properly and give him d conducive environment to succeed and I blif 9ja will be better for it. Like someone said if Manu was an European I blif he will be celebrated. His brand of soccer is what I for one enjoy and I can say a majority of Nigerians. As an aside talk this would have been an opportunity for NFF to help Siasia with coaching d u23 especially now dat he needs all d help financially he can get but d FIFA ban means dats not feasible. I also blif all 4 African countries will make it out of dia groups and either has d potential to win it all. I think Africa is well represented in dis competition. Don’t be surprised if it’s an all African final including France lol.
