Manchester United have officially appointed former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick as replacement for Ruben Amorim.
He will take the reins as an interim manager until the end of the season, marking his second stint in charge of the club he played 464 times for as a player.
“Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour,” said Carrick, 44, who won 12 major trophies in his 12-year playing career at United.

“I know what it takes to succeed here; my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing.
“There is still a lot to fight for this season, we are ready to pull everyone together and give the fans the performances that their loyal support deserves.”
Carrick previously served as interim boss for three games following Solskjaer’s dismissal five years ago, securing two wins and a draw before Ralf Rangnick took over.
Since being sacked by Championship side Middlesbrough in June, Carrick has been without a club. He led Middlesbrough to the Championship play-offs in the 2022-23 season, only to be defeated by Coventry in the semi-finals.
