McNamara Waiting On Tomkins Injury

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara is waiting to see the severity of the back injury Sam Tomkins picked up on Saturday.

The 30-year-old England international, who moved to the Dragons from Wigan ahead of the 2019 Super League season, left the action before the half-hour mark as the Challenge Cup holders thrashed Doncaster 62-6 at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

The win sealed the side a place in the quarter-finals of this season’s competition, but there were initial fears that Tomkins could miss out if they reached a second successive cup final.

However, McNamara spoke out to suggest that the back injury is not as severe as it first appeared and he will check on him during the course of next week.

He said: “He got a tight back. He didn’t feel anything, he just stood up and his back tightened up.

“He was struggling for a period but is moving a lot easier now so hopefully it’s just a bit of a spasm. We’ll see how he is during the week.”
