“My Grandmother Would’ve Awarded Us A Penalty” –Egypt Boss Slams Referee After Defeat To Nigeria

“My Grandmother Would’ve Awarded Us A Penalty” –Egypt Boss Slams Referee After Defeat To Nigeria

Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz says his side were denied a clear penalty in their 1-0 defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday, reports Completesports.com.

The Pharaohs produced a poor display in their opening game at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with Kelechi Iheanacho netting the decisive goal for Nigeria on the half hour mark.

The North Africans had a penalty shout in the second half after Moses Simon brought down Zizo inside the box.

The centre referee, Bakary Gassama, however whistled for a foul on Zizo instead.

“In the second half, there was a very clear penalty for us that the referee didn’t award and the VAR did not intervene,” Queiroz said in his pre match conference.

“May be at that time, the VAR was not working.

“There was clearly a penalty. It wasn’t our day, it wasn’t also a good day for the refereeing. Even my grandmother would have awarded it a penalty.

“It is a disaster because there are VAR referees. It is unacceptable. Watch the incident yourself. It’s unbelievable that with all these referees, no one noticed the penalty.”

The seven-time champions will face Guinea-Bissau in their next game on Saturday.

  • Losers, they were looking for penalty instead of them to thank God that they didn’t concede more than one goal.

Egypt should thank God that Osimhen was not part of the team.

Super Eagles are Egyptian players Senior any time any day.

    God bless Nigeria.

    • Egypt guys are 90% home base players . Only 2 plays in premier league . Next time eagls meet dem they will fall heavily…..how can u parade a team comprising of eyimba sunshine Kano pillars and river united to win top European team players.and u felt u are robbed

    • No b lai bro

  • I knew that falling inside our eighteen would be one of their tactics when Salah said that they would do everything possible to win Nigeria. Thank God that the referee and VAR didn’t fall for it.

Egypt coach said ‘Maybe the VAR was not working then’ what a joke. He thought he was in Egypt. Somebody should wake him up and remind him that this is afcon.

Nigeria would have beaten Egypt not less that 5 goals if Osimhen was part of the team.

Egypt should thank God that the goal was not more than one.

  • Osimhen 2 years ago

The two comments above me. Please do not disrespect the players by that phrase “if Osimhen were there “….it’s a big disrespect to good performance they put up yesterday. Let us face our reality, Osimhen is not here, those around need our fully support without distraction and unnecessary comparison

Egyptian Coach go and use your hand to throw the ball into the net not shouting for penalty

Is that your execuse ?? Tell Mohamed Salah to stop boasting because he said before the match that they were out to win Nigeria and even to win the AFCON because he has played for 10 years for his country he never win anything FOOD FOR THOUGHT a boaster can do Nothing

Now, other teams have learnt how to cage Salah. The coach won’t think of this . . . crying over fake penalty.

Don’t go and do some work on your team, keep laying blame till Guniea Bisua defeats you too

  • It is not all about Osimhen being around or not. The major reason why we didn’t score more than one goal was due to selfishness by many of our players. They all wanted to score in situations where a pass would have been more appropriate

    • Filah 2 years ago

Very correct. Selfishness denied Us. The attack should pass the ball to get more goals next time

    • Yes I believe they should learn how to be coordinated and stop na me score

Exactly. The way we talk at times is quite hilarious. Osimhem played all the qualifiers against weaker teams and we still struggled to score goals. Iheanacho missed a great chance (after a missed control), then Ejuke capped everything with two annoying selfish plays. Also in the first, before Nigeria scored, Moses Simon had a great chance to square the ball to Awoniyi but he chose to shoot – hitting the side-net. The wingers seem to be more interested in personal glory than creating chances for the strikers. The only decent cross delivered by Simon, resulted in the only goal.

It doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team wins, that’s why I love Awoniyi and Kelechi’s twin-partnership. Eguaveon must knock this into their heads going forward.

But in the end, we beat Egypt, a 7th-time-champion – not Sao Tome and Principe, Djibouti or Eritrea.

Finally, the players deserve all the credit but with Eguaveon’s total-football philosophy and unselfish-play by the wingers, Nigeria should win this Afcon.

    • We should stop second guessing, some times it is good to be selfish too much passing when you could take a shot to surprise the goalkeeper might be the best. The goal Iheanacho scored was almost outside the box he could be accused of not passing to some one who was free if the ball never went in. Take the goal andre Ayew scored it was from outside the 18. Goal scoring is a chance affair that does not work all the time no matter how open the player might be. there is no guarantee that because you are better positioned you would score when the ball is passed to you.

What will destroy our team is man of the match issue, somebody struggled with the ball in midst of three defenders ,then give you a pass and you scored, now you become the m o m, tomorrow everyone will be selfish

    • True. This issue can potentially ruin the selflessness and unity in a team.

Honestly, the best person fit for MOTM award IMO is Moses Simon.

I just hope they play more for each other.

    Terrible loser.
Just admit you were totally outplayed and wanted the refree to rescue you.

  • John-I 2 years ago

Well, seeing it from a neutral view point, while Nigeria outplayed Egypt for the entire 90 munites, this moment was scary. A VAR review would’ve given that as a penalty. Moses Simon had no reason going down that way and taking the Egyptian down (unintentionally). A highly entertaining, enterprising and classic play by Moses could’ve being ruined if the pen was awarded.
I think the ref decided not to review it because Moses didn’t intentionally fall on the Egyptian’s leg. Still a very unnecessary and scary moment.

Well, even if the Pen was awarded, there’s no guarantee Egypt will score. Nigeria was by far the better team and deservedly won.

    • The game play was interrupted 3 times if I counted rightly and the decision of the referee each time was for the play to continue.

So, there was no penalty, the VAR did not ask the referee to check.

Every other thing is history now.

If that guy, Ejuke can pass the ball, he will be Nigerians favorite but he doesn’t listen.

It is not the first time we have said he should stop the selfish play, so he doesn’t listen.

      • John-I 2 years ago

Ejuke no dey hear word lol. Eguaveon should keep a cane behind in the next game and whip Ejuke when he decides to play selfish football lol.
Anyway, I believe they’ll score more goals in the next game

  • ABDULRAZAK 2 years ago

Left to the Egyptian coach, the referee should have awarded a penalty to Egypt because the balls had issues. Hehehehehehe

  • Ola Olatayo 2 years ago
