“Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open, a place where I have amazing memories,” Nadal wrote.
“I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I will be able to give my 100 percent this time.
He appreciated his supporters, expressing optimism to be part of contestants at the next edition.
“Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of luck to all for the always amazing US Open! My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin.”
In July, Nadal reached the final of the ATP 250 event in Bastad and made the second round of the Paris Olympics, where he lost to long-time rival and eventual gold medalist Novak Djokovic.
Nadal and countryman Carlos Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals in the men’s doubles.
Nadal will join Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Team Europe at the Laver Cup.
The Laver Cup will hold from September 20-22.

AGBA TI DE!
Old age has come.
Nadal is not a spring chicken anymore. His hey day is behind him.
Retirement loading?
He’s had an outstanding career.
Great players come and go. They’re in the limelight for a while, then someone else takes over.
For all the dominant players who think they are Super Man, there is always one person out there who has their kryptonite and is able to remind them that they’re only human.
For Federer, it was Nadal that kept him humble. For Nadal, it’s Djokovic. And for Djokovic, he would have reigned supreme, but a certain Alcaraz has emerged, and has been a thorn in his flesh recently. The last 2 Wimbledons were won by Alcaraz at the Djoker’s expense. He did get some revenge a few days ago, by denying Alcaraz the Olympic gold medal.
Keeps the sport interesting! It would be a bit boring if only one person won all the time!
