Nigeria Netball Federation (NNF) President Dr. Esther Oluwatoyin Aluko has disclosed that the country’s first-ever national netball team, the Green Hawks, is heading to Nairobi not just to participate, but to fiercely compete.
Ahead of the 2026 Africa Regional Qualifiers for the 2027 Netball World Cup, Aluko made it clear that the squad’s ambitions stretch far beyond making up the numbers.
The tournament marks a monumental chapter as Nigeria fields its first-ever official national netball team on the international stage.

Drawn in Pool 2, the Green Hawks face a massive challenge against hosts Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and Zambia.
With two coveted qualification spots for the Netball World Cup in Sydney up for grabs, Aluko stressed that the team has been built to fight, command respect, and turn potential into a podium-level presence.
“We do not merely want to participate internationally. We want Nigeria to compete. We want Nigeria to be respected. And we want Nigeria to become a force to be reckoned with in African and global netball,.
“Nigeria is here. Nigeria is ready. Nigeria is playing netball. And we are determined to take Nigerian netball from the grassroots to the podium.

“This is not simply the unveiling of a team. It is the beginning of a new chapter in Nigerian sports,” Aluko said.
The Green Hawks open their tournament campaign against hosts Kenya, looking to prove that Nigerian netball is ready to make its mark on the continental and global map.
