Norwich Cut Losses On Striker

Norwich City have cut their losses on Nelson Oliveira after allowing the striker to join Greek side AEK Athens for a minimal fee. The transfer of the Portugal international was confirmed over the weekend with reports in Greece claiming the 28-year-old had signed a two-year contract on roughly the same salary that he earned at Carrow Road.

The same sources claimed AEK had paid less than £200,000 in total when agents fees were factored in, but the Canaries were glad to get him off their books because he had one year left on his £20,000-a-week contact. Oliveira, who scored 20 goals in 70 games for the club, fell out of favour at Carrow Road and spent the second half of last season at Reading.

Oliveira spoke to AEK’s official YouTube channel, and said: “It was difficult to make the final decision to come here, but AEK showed persistence and desire to sign me. “I am very grateful for the efforts which they made to take me to Greece, and on the pitch I will try to repay their faith. The fact that AEK have a Portuguese coach [Miguel Cardoso] certainly helped me make the decision to sign for this club.”
