OFFICIAL: Aribo Joins Southampton On Four-Year Contract

Southampton have announced the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo from Scottish giants Rangers on a four-year deal.

The Saints confirmed the acquisition of Aribo on their website on Saturday.

According to reports, Southampton will pay an initial £6 million with add-ons meaning the transfer could ultimately be worth in excess of £10 million once Rangers’ sell-on clause is factored in.

Aribo becomes Southampton’s fifth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Gavin Bazunu, Mateusz Lis, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Romeo Lavia.

The statement from Southampton read:“Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Joe Aribo from Rangers on a four-year deal.

“The 25-year-old has spent the last three seasons at Ibrox, scoring 26 goals in 149 appearances following his 2019 move from Charlton Athletic.

“Aribo helped the Glasgow giants capture their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years, also lifting the Scottish Cup, and was a runner-up in last season’s UEFA Europa League in which he scored in the final.

“Born in London, he represents Nigeria on the international scene, earning 20 caps to date and scoring on each of his first two appearances for the Super Eagles against Ukraine and Brazil in 2019.

“Known for his versatility, Aribo stands at 6ft tall and can operate anywhere across midfield, or as a forward.

Speaking on his move to Southampton, Aribo said: “It’s an amazing club with a lot of history here, and it’s a good plan with what’s to come next. I’m really excited for the journey.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world. I’ve been watching it since I was a young boy, it’s always been a goal for me to play here and show what I can do on this stage.

“It’s an amazing feeling, a dream come true. This is where I’ve wanted to be since I was a child growing up playing, so to say that I’m here now is really exciting.”

My POINT is this GUY is too TALENTED and GOOD for this CLUB…

why not STAY in RANERS for one or two SEASON keep WORKING HARD until a BETTER CLUB notices you even if it is ARSENAL or SPURS…

    • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

This CLUB will DRAIN HIS TALENT with their AIM of FIGHTING to stay in the PREMIER LEAGUE

It’s a good move. People should always learn to rejoice first with good news before finding faults. He has done his bit for Rangers it’s time to move. Even Gerrard is former coach didn’t think twice when he got a better offer from Villa.

Southampton is not relegation fodder. They are a middle table club. It is a good transfer for Aribo and the transfer he wanted. Aribo has stayed long enough at Rangers, if he signed another contract with Rangers he would be 30 years old at its expiry.
It is time he faced the rigors of the EPL.

Congrats Alibaba,a great move, I know pple are advising you should remain in rangers, they forget the fact that you earn less than 10,000 pounce a month.so at least it new employer will be able to give you nothing less than 30k a week. Go and gather small money yor

He was earning 8100 pounds from what I read online. He is way bigger than that

    • @Monkey, try and be positive for once. Every seasons, 16 teams or less do compete for the league in Scotland compare to England. You know you have have a point but all the same , I have a question for you. Apart from last season, when last have you seen a club from Scotland perform the way Rangers did in any European competition? Why don’t you see it like this, Arsenal today (forget about their lack of silverware) is one of the best club from premiership and one of their bitter rivals is Southampton, if they meet 5 times, I’m sure Southampton will win 2. If the likes of Sadio mane, Luke Shaw, Walcott, Wan Bissaka, Vandijk etc can make names for themselves from Southampton then why not Aribo? The world will easily notice Aribo playing against Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool than to be playing against Motherwell, Celtic, etc. So Aribo, Nice move jare!!

You said even if, how many clubs do you think are better than the once you called even if?

Secondly, rangers is below his new club. Here in EPL, top clubs can watch him closely. Just look at Dannis, top clubs are after him because they could watch him closely while at Watford. I think he made a progress in his career. I’m very sure if the club goes down, Joe won’t go down with them.

      LMFAO!!

You call MOVING from a EUROPEAN COMPETITIVE CLUB to an always RELEGATION BATTLING CLUB a PROGRESS??

      SMH…

      • People like you will even want Nigerian players to be leaving premiership and Italian league for clubs like Young Boys, Shaktar Donesk, Sporting Braga, Spatak Moaskva all in the name of Europa and Conference League. These Nigerian wise Men self

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

    SMH…

Now I know why KANU is MILLIONS of MILES AHEAD of the GREEDY OKOCHA in terms of GREATEST NIGERIAN FOOTBALLER …

TROPHY TROPHY LAURELS that is what FOOTBALL is all about and not all about MONEY.. yes MONEY is IMPORTANT but your EUROPEAN PEDIGREE as a PLAYER counts most..

    • Lol! see that Expression “Millions of Miles ahead” all in the name of proving a point? Do yourself a favor, Google that Question yourself (who is the greatest Nigerian player) and see the name that’ll come first.
Okocha in all and Kanu in terms of Laurels.
Nawa o! That’s why kanu had 13 goals as a Striker for Nigeria in 86 appearances while Okocha had 14 goals in just 73 appearances from his midfield position. Think twice my brother. You ain’t making enough sense.

    • Marvelous 2 years ago

This your particular point makes sense anyway. In Rangers he will win laurels and appear in European football. But in Southampton he will hardly win even Carlin cup or appear in European competition. But I still like his move, something good can happen from there, e.g the case of Mane and other products Liverpool got from Southampton. Don’t forget Southampton is Liverpool super market, they may observe him from there.

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

        Is alright @MARVELOUS

        AUGUST is HERE already

        WISH him all the BEST…

  • Marvelous 2 years ago

And if he was earning anything below 15k weekly in Rangers that was bad. Judging how good is he and his importants to the team.

  • this Aribo’s move is the best Nigerian movement in this window so far…… Anyone saying otherwise is just mischievous or a hater disguising as a fan.that been said…….Aribo will Excel In the EPL quickly and I see him moving to Liverpool in one or two seasons from now because Liverpool always take Southampton’s best players regularly of which Aribo will be this coming season…….Aribo’s finishing is becoming legendary and space is all he needs to put in those clinical finishes…….EPL will give him space and time to do his thing and top 4 clubs will come for him In no distant time…….Am so excited to be able to watch my Aribo every weekend now…….This is a dream come true for true SE fans who follow the EPL with passion…..Go Aribo Go Awoniyi…..This season go sweet!
