Arsenal have announced the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Europa League champions Aston Villa.
Konsa joined the Premier League champions on a four-year contract worth £55 million with the option to extend for a further year.
After weeks of negotiation, the clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday which could earn Villa up to an additional £4m in add-ons.
“We are delighted to announce that England international Ezri Konsa has joined us from Aston Villa on a long-term contract,” Arsenal announced on Friday.
“The 28-year-old began his professional career with Charlton Athletic, making his senior debut in 2016 and quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young defenders.
“After two seasons in the first team at The Valley, Ezri joined Brentford in 2018, where his performances during the 2018/19 season further enhanced his reputation and earned him a move to the Premier League with Aston Villa in 2019.

“Ezri has spent the past seven seasons at Aston Villa, making over 200 Premier League appearances for the club across all competitions. During his time at Villa Park, his consistent performances have established him as one of the Premier League’s leading defenders, capable of operating both centrally and at right-back.
“At international level, Ezri represented England’s Under-20s and Under-21s, before making his full national team debut in 2023. He has since become an established member of the England squad, representing his country at the UEFA Euro 2024 and 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
Konsa became a priority signing for Arsenal following the injury Ro French defender William Saliba.
It is left to be seen if he will be included in the Gunners squad in today’s Premier League opener with newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
