Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion have announced the signing of young Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna on a five-year deal.
The Seagulls confirmed the signing in a statement released on their official website on Saturday.
“Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed the signing of winger Zadok Yohanna from AIK Stockholm on a five-year contract until June 2031 for undisclosed terms,” the club wrote.
“Zadok will complete his move to the club when the transfer window reopens and it will be subject to the usual regulatory approvals.
‘One Of The Exciting Prospects In Europe’
“The 18-year-old Nigerian, who turns 19 later this month, will join us having established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe, after making a big impact in Sweden’s top division this season.
“Zadok began his career at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria before moving to Sweden in 2025, where he quickly adapted to European football with AIK.
“He has made 18 appearances for AIK this season in the league and cup, scoring five goals and providing four assists.”
Yohanna Explains Reason For Joining Brighton
Speaking after completing the move, Yohanna revealed that Brighton’s proven track record of nurturing young talent was the driving force behind his move from AIK Stockholm.
He believes the club’s philosophy perfectly aligns with his ambitions and attributes.
“I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them,” Yohanna said. “They are really good at developing young talents, and I think their style of play will fit me a lot.”
While Yohanna is eager to get started on the south coast, he admitted that leaving AIK was a tough decision.
“I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was difficult to leave.”
He added that he had spoken to Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler prior to agreeing to come to the club.
“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team.”
Interests From Other Premier League Clubs
It was gathered that Newcastle were also keen to sign Yohanna while Chelsea were reportedly showing an interest.
The youngster was included in the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup but had to pull out due to injury.
