The inaugural edition of the Olu of Mushin National Tug Of War Championship has been fixed for Saturday 11 June, 2022.
This was disclosed on Tuesday at a press conference held at the palace of the Olu of Mushin, Oba Fatai Ayinla Aileru the 2nd.
Present at the presser were the oba’ s son, Prince Abiola Yahaya Aileru, Chief Faronbi Tajudeen, Baale Oke Mushin and High Chief Akibu Adio Oseni Oyeleye, Baale Ladipo/Mushin market.
Also in attendance were Tug Of War Nigeria Federation, Isaac Osaikhiwu Isaac, the federation’s General Secretary, Abdulkareem Macaulay, the national coach Jude Iduh and EXCO member Samuel Babatoba.
Speaking at the press briefing, Tug Of War president Isaac, disclosed that the championship will hold at the National stadium, Surulere.
He disclosed that there will be monetary rewards, certification of participation, medals and trophies.
He also said youths from Mushin, from tertiary and secondary institutions as well as professionals from the armed forces, the army, the navy, the Nigeria police, the immigration will participate.

Speaking further, Isaac said:”It’s going to be a fiesta. Tug Of War is a community sport there will be extra things like music and dance, cultural troupes will perform to beautify the day. It’s going to be a fiesta that’s all I can say.
“His Royal Majesty the Olu of Mushin, is a father, he is a great personality, well respected. He is one who loves sports by clearly demostrating that this sport should take place, even at the smallest request we made shows that he is a personality who loves sports. And for that we are going to ensure that we go the extra mile to make sure that he doesn’t regret giving this franchise to Tug Of War Nigeria Federation.
“I expect that brands should flow in, I expect that they should partner with us we know what leverage means. Of course, if we have a major brand by now we would be mentioning names. So we would expect that brands should come in and take good advantage to leverage their product and services to the general public.”
He also revealed that the Championship would be used to unearth talents that would represent Nigeria at the Tug Of War tournament in Namibia in July.
“Eight edition of the Africa International Tug Of War Championships would be holding in Namibia in July. And we expect that Nigeria would be represented. There is no better way than to pull our team from a crowd like Mushin communities where you have a lot of youths who are very strong and dynamic.”
And in his message to the youths of Mushin:”My message to the youths of Mushin is that they should embrace sports, they should be disciplined they should continue to struggle because when you come here you would see that youths want to work I think they should work harder and also embrace sports.”
