Pinnick: Peseiro Free To Take Another Job

Pinnick: Peseiro Free To Take Another Job

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pelvin Pinnick says Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro can take another job, Completesports.com reports.

Peseiro was named Super Eagles’ substantive head coach last December following the sacking of Gernot Rohr.

The former Venezuela coach was expected to take charge of the team after the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen however put himself in the frame to get the job on permanent basis following the Super Eagles impressive showing in Cameroon despite the team’s exit in the second round.

Pinnick confirmed that the NFF is yet to seal a deal with Peseiro and discussions over a contract has stalled because of circumstances.

“I am still talking to him (Peseiro), maybe he has to wait till after the World Cup qualifiers (vs Ghana),” Pinnick told Channels TV.

“If in the course of his waiting, he got another job, we wish him well.

“The good news is that we did not sign the contract officially.

“We don’t want to rush and make a hasty decision considering the circumstances.

“We have to do what is best for the nation.

“And we work in harmony with the sports ministry, which represents the government.”

The Super Eagles will take on eternal rivals Black Stars of Ghana in a 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff next month.

It is the best thing Mr. AMAJU Pinnick. Going forward, Coach Austin Eguavoen and his team should begin to communicate with the lads concerning the all important playoffs in March. God luck SE and God bless Nigerians.

    • Sabbat 2 years ago

I tell you. For Pinnick to support our local managers with the cobweb effect of positively impacting on the local league, he has won the hearts of Nigerians. Cisse Aliou a local manager just won afcon for his country. The effort is ok and worth emulating. Good luck Egu and. his team.

DON’T LET US TO BE DECIEVING OURSELVES. WHAT MAKES EQUAVOEN, KESHI SUCCEED OTHER TIME (IN 2016 & 2013 AFCON) IS BECAUSE OF ARRAY OF SUPERB TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON BENCH. NOT THE ONE WE HAVE IN SUPER EAGLE NOW. YOU CAN IMAGINE A U-20 WORLD CUP-FAILURE,A FASHION-MODEL,A BRIBE-TAKER ON THE BENCH OF SUPER EAGLE. WHAT INSTRUCTIONS OR ADVICE ARE THEY GOING OFFER SUPER EAGLE PLAYERS.
EVEN WHAT MAKE ALIOU CISSE OF SENEGAL COACH SUCCEED IN THIS YEAR AFCON IS BECAUSE OF FOREIGN TRAINERS, FOREIGN ASSISTANCE COACH.
IN THIS LIFE,FOR SOMEONE TO COMMAND RESPECT & GAIN ATTENTION OF OTHERS, IS BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU GIVE OUT AND EXPOSE PEOPLE TO. APART FROM AMUNEKE, EQUAVOEN, SIASIA, OUR LOCAL ASSISTANCE COACHES DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO OFFER PLAYERS IN SUPER EAGLE. THEY DON’T COMMAND RESPECT.MOST OF THEM FEEL SHY TO DISH OUT INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAYERS. UNLIKE STEPHEN KESHI IN AFCON 2000, AMOKACHI IN AFCON 2013.
*** IF NFF CAN’T EMPLOY FOREIGN SUBSTANTIVE TECHNICAL ADVISER, THEN THEY SHOULD EMPLOY FOREIGN TRAINER ASSISTANCE LIKE SENEGAL AND LEAVE EQUAVOEN & AMUNEKE.

How on earth do you go public with the news of the appointment of a personnel you have not concluded negotiations or signed any contract with…?

Talk about incompetence and lack of professionalism of the highest magnitudes

    • Tamori Ibiwa 2 years ago

It’s well. We have to be patient since everything is alright with our arrangement. Let’s wait till after the playoffs.

“We have to work in harmony with the sports ministry which represents the government” Says it all.
Dare is behind all the recent problems we are having in our football.

    • The Minister is on the right track. Having a Nigerian manager to manage our team is the best any Patriotic Minister would do. I think we need to be patient with the government officials. If Minister Dare was talking about a foreign coach, that will be a different ball game. Good luck S.E.

You took the words out of mouth. Dare is a blessing to Nigerian youths and their development.

      • Greenturf 2 years ago

The minister should leave the Nff to do their job he shouldn’t bully them because they rely on government for funding to make irrational decisions.
The sports minister is getting misled by some groups of people who wants to use that channel to do business, all this clamour for indigenous coach by this group is not for the interest of the country.
Right now a foreign coach is what we need.No domestic coach is sound enough to thinker the super eagles.

        • benakay 2 years ago

@ Greenturf, You are spot on!

          1. A lot of people here have forgotten that there was a reason why a foreign coach was chosen after Keshi in the first place. RAMPANT CORRUPTION !!! – local coaches shamelessly involved in ‘pay to play’ practices, with random players on the national team, who had no business being there in the first place. It became a thriving business and Rohr put a stop to it. That’s why they fought tooth and nail to get rid of him. Now, we are back to square one.
          2. Nigerians are some of the most gullible people on earth – thats why the country is in the current mess it is in now. They readily accept mediocrity and celebrate it. How on earth can anyone say that the sports minister, Dare is doing a good job with Nigerian football??? The guy is a con-man and a fraud. He messed up the Olympics (the absolute worst results ever, alongside all the failures – drugs scandals, athletes not registered, non payment of allowances & bonuses, kit scandal, etc). Complete Mess!!!
          3. He orchestrated the hate against Rohr, just to make sure that his cronies got the job. He never funded the NFF but wanted to be the decision maker. He imposed Eguavoen on the NFF as well as a band of 8 or so incompetent coaches, yet celebrated the absolute WORST result in AFCON over 40 yrs. This man is as useless as they come.
          3. Perhaps the fog and haze Nigerians are currently under will clear up when Nigeria fails to bag the WC ticket. That’s when people will finally realize they have been conned by the crook named Dare.

@Jide don’t be to quick to conclude oh. Those guys with the team are business men not coaches. They’ll sell the team

In addition to @George’s comment, no country will offer Peseiro an appointment because of his poor CV. The NFF president should tell him off.

    • DON'T MIND THEM 2 years ago

MY FEAR FOR LOCAL COACHES IS BECAUSE THAT MOST OF THEM DOESN’T SAY TRUTH, HIGHLY SENTIMENTAL AND BRIBE-TAKERS. UNCLE OLISEH CAN CONFIRM IT. (check Sunday Oliseh TV online YouTube to confirm this)

Make Peseiro no use Portuguese juju take swear for these NFF pipu ohhh, just because of their confusion and indecisiveness…lol..appointing coach by “tumbom-tumbom” will lead these people to FIFA ban one day 😀

The thinking of the Minister is to have Sunday Oliseh assist Austin Eguavoen.

  • Pinnick has spoken the minds of Nigerians. The high point is the local content protection. We must look inwards irrespective of results after all, Cisse of Senegal didn’t spend on few days to train the Teranga Lions. God bless Eguavoen and the Eagles.

Eguoveon did a good job in the last afcon held in cameroon, especially in the group phases, but I noticed that in the match against Tunisia, there were tactical deficiencies noticed, as he and his assistants could not change tactics when it was obvious that, the Tunisian had antidote to his tactics brought into game.He should have different tactics going forward.
The question I have is it that the assistants do not read games as the match unfolds the reason for assistants is for inputs on the game,if not I do not see any reason to Yobo, and the two other assistants on the bench and do not say or have any input on games.
Finally Eguveon and assistants should go and study match tapes or videos of our opponents and start to prepare now because if he does not take us to qatar2022,this accolades given to him now will be taken away.Pls the NFF should hire quality assistants not just putting people th er e and say we have a coach.
Ghana is beatable,if the right players are invited based on current form, not a Ahmed Musa,he is a legend though,I respect him for service to the nation but when your time has passed it has passed, take a bow ad leave.

  • Respect IS RECIPROCAL 2 years ago

I would appreciate if NFF can put this white dude that usually assist Samson Siasia to assist the local coaches we need someone who can analysis the game very well we can not say just because we want our own to be there . Our local coach can imbibe our philosophy and pattern of plan to the players most especially now that we have numbers of foreign born players that are not accustom with our style of play. Then i want to encourage all fans to keep monitoring players ,we can just let they the NFF do it alone i think collectively we can recommend better players as we notice them to NFF not necessarily for the match coming in March as the time is to close.

I pray Austin and AMUNEKE will not disappoint us by allowing Nepotism ,Fraud and Dishonesty to cloud their selection criteria . They should see it as opportunity to change the mentality Nigerians have towards local coaches by doing the job very well.

I was a die hard fan of GR before his sack but Eguaveon has won my heart at the just concluded Afcon with his unique pattern of play which works so well for us. There was nothing like a tactical deficiency from the coach in that game against Tunisia, the blame should be on two players (aina for failing to track down his man and iwobi for that red card)

If you watch the game well, we deploy the same tactics we used in all our 3 group games in the first half which Tunisians really dealt with in the first of the game but in the second half the coach made a good tactical change by bringing in iwobi that automatically changed the formation of the team to 433 to add more creativity in the midfield and to give Moses simon and Chukwueze freedom to attack from the flanks without falling back to help our 2 and 3 when are defending just like the way they did in our first 3 games. But the tactics failed when the man that was brought in to do the creative work got his marching order just 9 minutes into his introduction.

We also missed the service of an effective point man through the tournament, I can bet you all that if ighalo and Osimhen were in that tournament that Nigeria would have won this tournament convincingly. We should just see our early exit as a blessing in Disguise because Ghana won’t know the Calamity that’s going to be fall on them comes March 23 And 29th respectively.

Note: Senegal isn’t better than Nigeria in anyway. Forget about individual players they have, if had our full house in that tournament we will beat them hands down and you can take that to Bank, even Khalilu Cuolibally said it that were afraid of Nigerians based on their performance at the group stage. I am so happy for them for winning the afcon for the first time in the history of their country.

  • I read somewhere that Amunike has been appointed to assist Eguavon for the Ghana match.
If this is true, then it is a step in the right direction.

Manu Garba and Ndubuisi Egbo the coach and keeper trainer in Albania should be brought in for a 4 year contract.
After 4 years, Eguavon steps down then Amunike leads the team.

Vice has been with Senegal for 8 years.

Amaju is something else incompetent and inept

  • Blind clueless people full this country. Good luck on your wishes.

  • Mr. Melvin Amaju Pinnick and his glass house board should be declare an enemies of Nigerian football not only for this statement, also for retaining a coach like Mr. Eguavon. I want to ask Mr. Pinnick if he actually watch the Nigeria games, expecially that of Tunisian. For God sake Eguavon was beaten tatically by an average Tunisian coach.

For now I do not see any good Nigerian coach that can lead this exciting lads (players), I mean no one capable for now. Trying to compare Eguavon to Cisse of Senegal is something that even mavel me.
Cisse must have worn the tournament yes, but is he the best of coach technically? My answer is No.

If there should be any outstanding coach it Should be the coach of Bokina-Fasso.

Senegalese have exciting players over Europe, so they are one of the favourites.
If Mr. Pinnick must appoint a Nigerian coach it should be Amunike to be partner by Finidi, those are our best coach for now.

  • Nigeria is not qualifying for the World Cup . Ghana is going to get ex Brighton coach. That guy will out tactics eguaveon and he will have competent assistants. Not all this padi padi Aigboun , Salisu or Alloy Agu. Make dem call enyeama to help the goal keepers.
