Qatar 2022 World Cup: Black Stars’ 26-Man Squad Unveiled

Black Stars of Ghana head coach Otto Addo has announced his 26-man squad for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Addo officially announced the squad on Monday as they get set to face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Notable names like Thomas Partey, Andre and Jordan Ayew, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Mohammed Kudus, Inaki Williams made the cut.

Other players also included are Tariq Lamptey, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Issahaku Abdul Fatawu, Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku and Abdul-Rahman Baba.

Uncapped striker Kamal Sowah’s form for Club Brugge in the Champions League won him a World Cup call-up for Ghana.

Sowah has impressed as the Belgian club reached the last 16 of the Champions League, knocking out Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen in the process.

There was also a first call up for midfielder Salis Abdul Samed, 22, who has been a regular for Racing Lens this season as they have moved to second in the French Ligue 1 standings.

Ghana have been forced to name three inexperienced goalkeepers after their first two choices – Jojo Wollacott from Charlton Athletic and South Africa-based Richard Ofori – were both injured in club action.

The squad will be captained by Dede Ayew, who was part of the team that reached the quarterfinals in South Africa in 2010.

Nice selection, I would prefer Ghana and Uruguay, but Portugal?

  • Where are the duo of Callum Hudson Odoi and Eddie Nketiah? Thought they wanted to switch national allegiance from England to Ghana? What happened to their World Cup dreams?

Great selection, however! Good luck to Ghana. I will be rooting for Ghana,Senegal and Cameroon in the absence of Nigeria. North African teams like Morocco and Tunisia play more of the European game. They lack the African physical flair.

I also have soft spot for Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal,France,Belgium ,Argentina and Spain.
