Team Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel delivered a historic performance to win the men’s 400m hurdles gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday night.
Nathaniel powered to victory in a time of 48.47 seconds, finishing comfortably ahead of England’s Jake Minshull, who claimed silver in 48.99s, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson took the bronze medal with 49.22s.
The national record holder etched his name into the history books by becoming the first Nigerian ever to win the men’s 400m hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games.

His triumph also secured Team Nigeria’s ninth gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Games, further boosting the country’s impressive medal haul.
In the men’s 200m final, Udodi Onwuzurike added another medal to Nigeria’s tally by claiming silver with a season’s best of 20.09 seconds.
He finished behind South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile, who stormed to gold in 19.96s, while Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor came third with a personal best time of 20.11s.
Onwuzurike’s podium finish capped another memorable evening for Team Nigeria on the track in Glasgow.
