Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says the decision to sack him by the then Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick cost the team a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Rohr was sacked last December after guiding the Super Eagles to the playoff round.
The Super Eagles however failed to qualify for the global soccer fiesta after losing on aggregate to eternal rivals, Black Stars of Ghana.
“Pinnick said my dismissal will avert a disaster, but in the end he created the disaster that cost Nigeria the ticket to the World Cup,” Rohr told Eagle7FM Sports Radio in an interview anchored by Osasu Obayiuwana.

“I regret that I did not take my team to win the World Cup, I regret my players will not be at the World Cup even though they deserve to be there.
“It was not my decision, it was a decision by Pinnick and his board.
“He was punished for this as Nigeria lost the chance to win the AFCON and did not qualify for the World Cup.
“I hope he takes better decisions now as a member of the FIFA Council.”
Rohr will be in Qatar for media work.

As long as Nigerians try to put the issue of Rohr misadventure behind, it will keep hunting Nigeria football till after the world cup or till next Nations cup. The pain of missing the greatest football show piece in the world is beginning to sink in now.
We had it all together until the biggest witch-hunt of Naija football happened. We sacked the coach that met all his targets to avoid disaster. Guess what happened we accquired disaster. As my respected forumite usually says, Nigeria will do well for some till they go and press the self distruct bottun which they usually do around the world cup period.
I hope we learn the necessary lessons to avoid the next disaster. But my fear is that we hardly learn. Nigeria has now become a training material for world cup bound team, what a new low.

It is not written in stone that he would have qualified us for the World Cup. If he has been fired after the 2018 World Cup which was when I feel he should have been let go given that his tactical deficiency was laid bared, ”his supporters” would have been here telling us how he would have won a fourth Nations Cup for us in Egypt had he not been canned.

Oga Rohr and Amaju Pinnick should be blamed for Nigeria’s world cup qualifiers exist against Ghana.
Mr. Gernot Rohr would have gone after the world cup in Russia but Amaju insisted that Oga Rohr had to continue and in the end, Oga Rohr struggled to beat small teams in Africa.
To make things worse, Super Eagles were disgraced in front of their home fans in Lagos.
Even, majority of Oga Rohr fans were in support of Oga Rohr sack. So, why now that some people still believe that if Oga Rohr was in charge of Super Eagles against Ghana, Nigeria will made it to the world cup with ease?
