Rohr: Super Eagles Can End Algeria’s 18-Match Unbeaten Run

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says his team will go all out to end Algeria’s 18-match unbeaten streak in Friday’s (today) friendly, reports Completesports.com.

The two African nations will clash at the Worthersee Stadium, Klangefurt.

African champions Algeria last defeat came almost two years ago, a 1-0 loss to the Squirrels of Benin in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

Since then the North Africans have won 13 and drawn and drawn five matches.

Djamel Belmadi’s side recorded wins against top sides like Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Mali and Colombia during the period.

Rohr is however adamant the Super Eagles can end Algeria’s impressive run.

“It’s a match to test new players, we want to see what they are capable of, Algeria will be a big test for us, it’s a team that has been undefeated for 18 games and we will try to stop,” Rohr told a news conference on Thursday.

” It is a great team in Africa, it is champion of the African continent, we will try to put an end to their good results”

It will be first time the Super Eagles and Algeria will be meeting in a friendly.

The game will be a repeat of the 2019 AFCON semi-final which Algeria won 2-1 courtesy of Riyad Mahrez late free kick.

  • Like Argentina, these north Africans are a foxy lot, both on and off the field. They’ll employ all kinds of trickery to win by hook or crook. In fact, the Algerian national team has been appropriately named the desert foxes.

This must be more than a friendly match for Rohr. SE must beat both Mahgrebian countries and become Number 1 or 2 in Africa. Algeria accepted to play Nigeria cos they want to overthrow us from our current number 3 spot. This much was admitted by their coach, Belmadi 2 days ago.

You beat them 4-1 just 2 years ago. Do it again and end their 18-match unbeaten run. Even though slightly depleted, you still have the resources to carry the day. #Go Super Eagles!

  • We will win if Musa Acts as second assitant Coach to Rohr and Yobo and doesn’t smell that pitch abeg
