Rohr’s Left-Back Target Zaidu Joins Porto On Five-Year Deal

Rohr’s Left-Back Target Zaidu Joins Porto On Five-Year Deal

FC Porto have announced the signing of Nigerian defender Zaidu Sanusi from Santa Clara on a five-year deal, reports Completesports.com.

Zaidu caught the eye following his impressive showing for Santa Clara in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season.

The 23-year-old scored one goal in 24 league appearances for the modest side.

Porto beat off strong competition from Greek club Olympiacos to sign the left-back.

“I will give everything on the field, for the fans and for everyone at the club,” Zaidu told the club’s official website.

Zaidu has previously played for Portuguese club Gil Vicente and Mirandela.

    congratulation. finaly we now have all wings fully gifted. i cant wait to ses us in action soon. i thought nff was preparing a friendly for us this month has it be cancled or not? i need an update on that.

    • The friendlies has been put off.The clubs said that they were not going to release their players because of the corona pandemic.

      • The friendlies have been put off.The clubs said that they were not going to release the players because of corona pandemic.

      • We will have the chance to see a new look SE in November, during the double header Afcon qualifiers. Meanwhile congrats to Zaidu, it’s a step in right direction.

      • I think its more a case of the NFF did not prepare adequately and contact the clubs on time. Makes no sense that European nations both their senior and Under 21 squads are meeting up this September, but the clubs will withold Nigerian and African players.

        Something is not quite right

        • adisboy 4 years ago

          @BigD, Not so. FIFA revised calendar has only allowed international matches in September for the UEFA confederation i.e. European nations. They are using the period for the UEFA Nations League. The rest of the world will resume international matches from October. It is then we can arrange friendly matches prior to the AFCON qualifiers in November.

    This is the closest thing Cele in this current SuperEagles gradually returning to the glory days. Hopefully he continues to be impressive with Porto.  #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

  • Abdul andah 4 years ago

    Wow! At last! CONGRATULATIONS ZAIDU!
    I wish you the very best of luck in your step-up at FC Porto. FC Porto have been known with our age-grade footballers but it has been difficult for them making the important step up to the first team, from the likes of chidera Eze, Musa Yahaya, Kelechi Nwakali…

    I can’t wait to start reading that you won the MVP in most of Porto’s matches most especially, in their European competitive matches…

    I pray you perform very well and earn a well deserved lucrative offer to Barca in the nearest future, ameen.

    I have always thought that jamilu needs a very effective competitors at the left back for the super eagles and here comes Zaidu M. Sanusi.

    It is about time Every player of the super eagles needs to be firm and focus with their toes on the pedals always if not, competition is becoming very seriously like never before.

    • JimmyBall 4 years ago

      … This guy has already sat Jamilu Collins butt on the bench.

  • Goal ⚽️ 4 years ago

    He has a decent crossing ability and also an attack minded fullback with decent speed as well.

    Kudos to you Zaidu M Sanusi
    Keep improving
    #team9jastrong!!

  • Except there is a drastic turnaround in Collins’ performance and career, it appears like his days are numbered in SE. This is because I do not think it is wise to drop Ola Aina who can play both left and right back positions. If someone has to give way for Zaidu right away, that will likely be Collins I guess. But at the end of the day, the coach decides.

    • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

      I think the coach has already decided…going by the last round of qualifiers. After almost a dozen games and opportunities of Collins failing to grab the No 3 shirt (albeit without opposition) of the SE and making himself its permanent owner, Rohr already swapped him for Ola Aina at leftback against Lesotho after his unconvincing show vs Benin.

      In today’ super eagles no time to waste. Every player now knows there is someone on the wings waiting to grab that much coveted jersey if you mess-up. And the funny thing is that we wouldnt even feel your absence when you are booted out.

    • I doubt at this time that Collins squad place is in danger. He is the only other outright leftback in the squad. Aina is versatile and can compete with Ehizibue for the Right back whilst covering left back as required. Makes sense to have 4 fullbacks in the squad.

      Now if Tyrone were to return as well, then Collin’s squad place could be in jeopardy as Tyrone/Ehizibue RB with Awaziem covering and Zaidu/Collins/Aina competing for two spots. Zaidu can play anywher on the left (LB, LWB, LM, LW) and Aina can play anywhere on the left or right (LB, LWB, LM, RB, RWB, RM), but as it stands today, Zaidu will compete with Collins for the starting spot

  • TUNDE 4 years ago

    THIS IS WHAT WE ARE SAYING THAT ANY SUPER EAGLES PLAYERS FEELING RELAXED,THINKING THAT HE HAS SECURE A PERMANENT SPOT IN NATIONAL TEAM SHOULD WATCH-OUT HIS BACK. NO COMPLACENCY!
    **Each players to watch out their back:
    *EZENWA===M.Okoye,Osigwe
    *J.COLLINS===S.Zaidu
    *IHENACHO===dessers,Simy Nwankwo
    *OMERUO===semi Aayi
    *AWAZIEM===ehizubue,Ebuehi
    *IWOBI===aribo,Ejaria,Eze

    • Some players will be used only when eagles are playing against teams like Tanzania Togo Benin . Their back is coming too fast now

  • Even Ekong if not careful…Adarabioyo, Udokhai…I’m having feelings that Collins will be out cos we have Ebuehi coming back, Ehizibue is there, Ola Aina and Now Zaidu..don’t forget another up coming guy from Rangers and even Okoroji that is now his rival at Padaborn. Our team is becoming interesting day by day I even heard 4 new players had already been penciled down for just canceled friendly(Ejuke, Zaidu, Bazee and Adarabioyo) …I kept wondering who and who will be replaced.

    The way and manner every footballer with a pint of Nigerian blood in his vain is yearning to be in this NEW SUPER EAGLE… I suggest it’s the ripe time to have 2 Super Eagle National teams (not team A or B), A complete team with reserves I mean. Everyone wants to play and they need to fight for the position to be counted.

  • Collins 4 years ago

    If Porto give you 5years contract,you’re GOOD.welcome to super eagles,the rising team of Africa

  • Gideon S 4 years ago

    What a Wow….! Everyday good news
    Happy witnessing what’s going on @SE..
    I just want us to win trophy @this period

  • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

    Super Eagles prime time, Glory days are back. Let’s utilize this guys now to win Trophies and break limits.

    As for Jamilu Collins, I think he will have to sit out the Super Eagles for now except he makes a move to a good club in the Top 5 European leagues or better still make the much expected move to Werder Bremen and play in the Bundesliga. I think that will put him in a good frame for selection again. But for Now the Left Back options are tough Zaidu, Ebuehi is back and can play both wings same with Ola Aina. Don’t forget, Bryan Idowu is also out there grinding

  • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

    This news also brings back the topic of OWNGOALNIGERIA Reports being 90% true most times because they speculated this news since last month and now it’s true. So OwngoalNigeria is credible

    • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

      Hehehehe….I didnt want to be forward on that issue. We are still waiting for @chima e samuels and his herd of charlatans who claimed owngoal.com is a fake website that publishes fake news and lies (but cannot go a day without visiting the site) to come back here and tender a public apology to that site. Owngoal has in their typical fashion been giving us progress reports on this transfer since last month so it wasn’t even news anymore by the time CSN broke it…same with Ejuke’s transfer and several others. Whereas the so called ‘credible-est’ site has been telling us how 10 clubs have been “fighting” for Dennis since January, yet no bid from any of them…na September we don enter so….Lolz.
      Let lies travel for decades, the truth will always catch up in a day…!

    • @ChairmanFemi, OGN throws a lot out there, both wild and true. A bit like the village amebo, talk anyhow, one might enter Lol

      • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

        Lol…true. But I get first hand info there. As Drey rightly said, anytime I come to CSN, the news is no longer new after reading it on OGN like 2 weeks before. Nice Amebo website

  • The zaidu I watched online is far better than jamilu Collins. Simple and clear. He will do well in Porto and also SE.

    • JimmyBall 4 years ago

      … This is the kind of humility we want. Zaidu Sanusi… talent don’t lie, welcome to Super Eagles!

    • Jones 4 years ago

      Saw the interview and one thing I’m sure of is that Zaidu would do well in Porto…the guy is a fighter…from 3rd division to 1st division in just 3 years…WOW!!!

  • Hope to see zaidu in the super eagles team very soon. Collins hasn’t played well for SE since our game against Algeria. So someone needs to be tried in dat position. A natural left footed player.
    In a year or twos time I want to believe that C.Bassey of Rangers in Scotland will be mature enough to compete for a place in the SE. The boy has some talents and if given the opportunity will do well for the SE.

    • What do u guys think about calvin bassey, he is left full back but I think he can be a left footed central defender, which is what I think super eagles really need.
      Watch his videos. What do u think?

      • Pompei 4 years ago

        Calvin Bassey is an exciting prospect. Just 20 yrs of age, he is good at overlapping, has good technical skills, dribbles well, and defends well. What I like most about his game is his ability to cross the ball. He may not be selected, but I think he is good enough to be on Rohr’s radar.

        • Ayphillydegreat 4 years ago

          The guy is a huge Fella. Could be a prospective Left footed Center Back for the SuperEagles. His physical presence to me will be his advantage. However Sanusi is very fast and extremely gifted technically. Collins may well be the odd man out unless he plays first division football and for a good club at that to retain his spot in the SE. When you have a Zaidu Sanusi playing for Porto and a Calvin Bassey playing for Rangers. Two major teams in their respective divisions. Playing in the Bundesliga 2 can surely cost Jamilu a future call up.

          • Sammy 4 years ago

            Calvin Bassey is better than sanusi..mark my word

      • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

        Calvin Bassey is good but he needs time to mature well in the game. Note, this is his first Senior League appearance. He’s been playing Youth football all his life. That’s why Coach Gerrard isn’t even starting him ahead of Barisic yet. With time, he will prove his mettle and we’ll have a NEW SAKA in him. But my own take is, the boy is destined a star. So NFF should go for him now. If possible, cap tie him and leave him to continue growing cuz we no want story when the boy con blow for Scotland and we’ll have to be fighting off England and Italy. Let’s go for him now

  • Just saw Zaidu’s video on YT, i am pretty impressed by his speed, tackling and dribbling skills for but i suppose he’s still got to polish his crosses, not up to scratch just yet…#myOpinion

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aNQpx-T2QHI

    • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

      Meanwhile, his highlight I watched on his IG page yesterday was how he placed fine neat crosses from the Left wing after a dazzling run from defence to the Strikers which they eventually scored. That guy is just good. We’re lucky to have him

    Another competition alert!

    We’ve got another goal keeper alert further creating a heated competition in the Goal Keeping department. Matthew Yakubu has now been annointed as the First Choice Goalkeeper of SK Sered in the Slovakian top flight and has kept there last 4 games with 3 clean sheets. There league just commenced not quite long. Read up
