Pedro Obiang insists he’s a more mature player after his four years in England as he nears a return to Serie A with Sassuolo. The 27-year-old began his career in Italy, progressing from the Sampdoria academy to the senior squad before moving to West Ham in 2015.

“I return to Serie A as a more mature player after my time in the Premier League,” Obiang told Sky Sports Italia on his arrival at the airport. The Equatorial Guinea international was sold to West Ham for 6million euros and, after 91 Premier League appearances across four seasons, is set to sign for Sassuolo for a reported 8.9m euros.
“The Sassuolo opportunity came about before the transfer window opened, with a call from (Coach Roberto) De Zerbi,” he added. “I knew that sooner or later I would return to Italy, and talks were initiated with when De Zerbi called me before the transfer window had even started. I didn’t believe it, but then we kept talking and now here I am.”
