Fabian Schar has distanced himself from reports linking him with a move away from Newcastle and says he’s enjoying life under Steve Bruce. The Switzerland international was one of the standout players for the Magpies last season following his arrival from Deportivo La Coruna, playing a starring role in Newcastle’s defence, while also notching four goals.
Having joined for a nominal fee of £3.5million, the north-east outfit have the chance to make a healthy profit on the 27-year-old this summer with AC Milan reportedly ready to offer around £13.5million for him. Despite having been brought in by Rafael Benitez, who has since left St James’ Park, Schar says he’s settled at Newcastle and isn’t interested in talk of a move away.

“To be honest I hear so much, about me and about all of our players,” Schar told the Northern Echo. “This club has plenty of interest in it. I had a really good season last season and I am looking forward to this one. The rest is not something I can control. People can write things but I can’t affect that. “I am really happy here and looking forward to the next season. I love this club, the fans and I have almost everything I need. I am really happy.”
Meanwhile, Schar says Bruce has already won over the majority of the Newcastle squad following his appointment last month and claims he has brought a feel-good factor back to the squad in the wake of Benitez’s tumultuous departure. “There are always changes when the new manager comes in,” he added.
“We have worked the last two weeks with him and I can feel we are heading in the right way. We have a lot to work on. There are ten days until the start of the season and we are focused on improving. “I think everyone likes the new manager. His character towards the players, he jokes sometimes with us, and that gives us something our team needs. We are really happy to work with him and I am too.”
