Shorunmu, Baruwa React To Okoye’s Move To Watford

Former Super Eagles goalkeepers Ike Shorunmu and Abiodun Baruwa have congratulated Maduka Okoye, following his move to Premier League outfit Watford.

On Monday the Hornets announced the signing of Okoye for an undisclosed fee from Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam.

The deal which is five-and-a-half year, will begin on 1 January 2022 and run until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

The 22-year-old will spend the rest of the 2021-22 season back with Sparta Rotterdam on a loan deal.

And reacting to the move, Shorunmu speaking in Tuesday’s edition of the Breakfast Show on Brila FM, he described it as a big achievement.

“It’s a big achievement I must say because to be in a big league is not easy for any goalkeeper. And for him to be transferred to Watford I say congratulations to him and to Nigeria entirely.

And speaking also on Brila FM, Baruwa said Okoye’s deal is a positive development for young goalkeepers.

“As we know he has been improving over the years. And one thing we need to be happy is because he is one of us, he is African and it is a positive thing for young goalkeepers.”

Hehehehehe……Congratulations is still too big a word to come out of the big mouths of some racists who played at the HIGHEST LEVEL like Ike Shorunmu and Biodun Baruwa……LMAOooooo.

This mata still dey choke them for spinal cord…..LMAOooooo

    • Mahmud Shuaib 2 years ago

As racists as they may appear, you are too very small and inconsequential to cast aspersion on their persons!

The last I recall, no one knows you anywhere in this country. Baruwa and Shorunmu are legends of football in Nigeria!

      Both are former WC players.

      Please who are you?
      What are you?

      Serial hater!

        Hahahahaha……Mahmud Shuaibu indeed….LMAOOoo. Bloody racist.

This God is such a good God ey…..LMAOOoo.

Okoye is not national team material…..LMAOooo….go and tell your village people that a Nigerian GK signed for 6m by an EPL club is not national team material……LMAOoooo.

You will crawl back into your hole when you are done fooling yourself……LMAOooooo

I just asked you a very simple question. Who and what are you?

Both Baruwa and Shorunmu are national icons of the game.

Shorunmu is bigger than you in that he congratulated the young man despite having reservations initially.

Thats where POMPEI is better than you. He doewnt hesitate to change his position on issues. But you, even if the facts stare you NAKED in the FACE you will be proving NONSENSE just cause you dont want to concede to UGO IWUNZE or CHIMA or JIMMYBALL etc.

For instance, you have lost all your GRAMMATICAL GRANDILOQUENT since your grandfather GR chose an inactive NOBLE over his club teammate benching him.

        • @Dr Drey Mr Contradictor lol… you see why you are never taking serious. So Dennis who plays for the same Watford is not good for SE like you claim but your God Musa who plays in a lowely turkey league is?. But now you are saying Okoye is good for SE because he Signed for the same Watford in England Epl. even worse you where gunning everyone down on this forum who dared question why a club less Musa for over 6 months at the time was selected over more talented players. How do you reason?

That is our problem with you. Choose a lane and stay on it and stand your ground on it too bro. my little advise to you.

Shoromu’s biases always showed when he talked about Okoye which makes it suspect to hear him sound this way now.

It is justified to be skeptical of his motives after all the negative attacks on the coach for picking Okoye ahead of the other keepers and how he unjustly belittled the young man’s ability in-between the post. Okoye has now reached a point were Shoromu believed to be impossible. Which means and shows it’s wrong to allow your sentiment and prejudice becloud judgements. You always have to be objective.

You are not well… Go and see a Psychiatrist.

  • And this is the guy some Nigerian fans were rubbishing the other day that he is not a super eagles material. From forth decision in Germany to EPL in England. Kudos should be given to Rohr

7 million dollars goalkeeper no be moi moi. He is the best in Nigeria right now and might turn out to be the best goalkeeper Nigeria ever produced. At 22yrs he is this good. So proud of you, flying Okoye.

Rohr is a manipulator for the young boyz. Kudos to ROHR a big congrat to Okoye.

  • Good move Okoye and i wish you all the very best bro..
what i dont understand is is it a deliberate attempt or a coincidence to have at least 3 super eagles players in a team these days? the last time we have such was the period AJax won the Champions league… It’s a good sign for super eagles, as i foresee a team bound, togetherness and very soon too powerful for any team to defeat

    LEICESTER’S CONTINGENT
    KELECHI
    NDIDI
    AND VERY SOON ADEMOLA LOOKMAN

    WATFORD CONTINGENT
    kING EKONG –
    DENNIS
    ETEBO
    AND VERY SOON OKOYE

    RANGERS CONTINGENT
    MINSTER OF DEFENCE – BALOGUN
    ARIBO
    BASSEY

Watford still has Tom Dele Bashiru and Isaac Success in their book

      • thought Isaac plays for Udinese now…well that’s good to know…

      • NaijaEaglesFan 2 years ago

@Chinenye Isaac Success is in Udinese Italy, he moved during the summer transfer.

  • NaijaEaglesFan 2 years ago

@TOD Ajax never had three Nigerians at the same time in the history of the club and when Ajax won the championship league in 1995 the Nigerian players on their roster are Finidi George and Nwankwo Kanu. Their wasn’t a third Nigerian on Ajax payroll.

    • absolutely correct sir, but we have more than one Nigerian in that team at a time…just as we have more than three Nigerians in watford set-up now..i’m just looking at the unity, togetherness and team bonding we shall witness in our darling SUPER EAGLES

Shoromu’s biases always showed when he talked about Okoye which makes it suspect to hear him sound this way now.

Dr. Dre is justified to be skeptical of his motives after all the negative attacks on the coach for picking Okoye ahead of the other keepers and how he unjustly belittled the young man’s ability in-between the post.

Okoye has now reached a point were Shoromu believed to be impossible, which means and shows it’s wrong to allow your sentiment and prejudice becloud your judgements.

You always have to be objective.

Because you like to see a certain player in a position another is occupying at the moment, does not make the other player not a national team material. Mistakes always occur in games, at the same time players are not defined only by their Mistakes.

Shoromu made lots of blunder as Nigerian keeper and always had a look on his face that indicates lack of self assurance/confidence when in goal so it’s really surprising to read those comments made by him then.

  • I forgive all Those that said Okoye is not national team material because they have not watched his highlight on YouTube.

Is it Ben forster he is going there to bench. He will just rot away. Why not use your brain and stay at sparta rotterdam. MUMU

    • chrisB 2 years ago

Ben Foster is 37years, Okoye is 22years. A premiership club that buys a goal keeper for over $6million did not buy him to warm the bench. I follow the dutch league just because of Okoye and I must say his aerial presence, confidence and one on one saves have really improved. We should only wish him well please

  • Congratulations to okoye for this deal. I have been one of his critics but he seems to be making a good impression on some people. I hope watford stays up at the end of this season so that he can play in the premiership. With this new deal I guess its safe to say that for now okoye is the super eagles number one between the sticks. I may not be a huge fan of his but I have to commend his achievements and growth on a personal level. Good luck and continue to improve
