Solskjaer Seeks Redemption As Man united Face Tough Test Against Tottenham

Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job will come under serious scrutiny as the Red Devils will be hoping to redeem their image against Tottenham after the team’s embarrassing 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are firmly under the pump after going four games without a win in the Premier League, a run that includes a 4-2 loss to Leicester City and the harrowing 5-0 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool, at home last weekend. As a result, Manchester United have slipped down to seventh place in the table, eight points off of leaders Chelsea and three below West Ham in fourth.

The recent results and the listless performances have placed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under the spotlight. The Norwegian seems to continue enjoying the faith of the club, but with sections of fans turning on him, he will need to spark a turnaround at the earliest. But, Tottenham will pose a tricky proposition for the 20-time English champions on Saturday.

Tottenham, themselves, haven’t been doing all too well, with their form deteriorating after the positive start under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo. After back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Vitesse Arnhem (Europa Conference League) and West Ham United (Premier League), the Lilywhites returned to winning ways this week, beating Burnley 1-0 in the Carabao Cup and will hope to carry that momentum forward.

Just a point and a place above Manchester United in the table, the north London giants will be aiming to bag all three points and prove their top-four credentials while heaping further misery on a direct rival.

Statically, Man United have won 36 of their previous 58 Premier League games against Tottenham, suffering just 10 defeats in the process.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he’s not received any assurances from the board over his job future.

He said: “I’m going to go all in now for a result on Saturday. That’s the only thing we can do. We need a reaction and a result. I never give up. I’ve had communication with the board and I don’t expect them to give me assurances.

“When you have a performance and a spell like we’ve had, that’s not what I call about and say. We’re in a poor run of form. My job is to put things right and that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m not here to ask for assurances.”

Probable Lineup

Tottenham: Lloris; Emerson, Romero, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Skipp; Moura, Ndombele, Son; Kane

Man United: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo
