Sports Minister Congratulates Golden Eaglets for Picking 2023 U17 AFCON Ticket

The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has congratulated Nigeria’s U17 men’s team, the Golden Eaglets for picking a ticket to next year’s CAF U17 Nations Cup in Algeria.

The Eaglets beat their opponents the young Elephants of Cote’d Ivoire 3-1 in the first semi finals of the WAFU B U17 tournament in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The Nigerians overcame a first minute deficit from the penalty spot to overpower the defending champions with three brilliant goals, two of them from expertly taken free kicks by the outstanding Emmanuel Michael.

The victory, apart from securing Nigeria’s place in the WAFU B U17 final, also confirms the Golden Eaglets’ place in Algeria next year at the CAF U17 Nations Cup.

In his message to the team, the Sports Minister urged them to emulate their seniors, the Flying Eagles who won the U20 version of the competition in Niamey, Niger Republic last month.

“I congratulate you for doing the most difficult part of the job in such a commanding manner. I salute your fighting spirit and determination. I commend your coaches, officials and the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) for laying the foundation for this success.

“I urge you to finish this assignment the same way your seniors, the Flying Eagles did in Niamey, Niger Republic last month. Go and win the final. I know you can do it.

The final of the WAFU B U17 tournament will be played in Cape Coast, Ghana on Friday, June 24, 2022.

Yes we achieved the goal of qualifying for Algeria but the process was wrong. The team did not stay long in camp as past U17 teams did. Neither did we know who paid for their mandatory MRI test. Hope not the players but if they did they must have been threatened never to open up.

If not for an astute tactician like Ugbade, then the team would never have qualified for Algeria unlike Bosso who used OVER AGED PLAYERS TO WIN THE WAFU B tournament.

When I saw their build up play against Ghana and the way they frustrated the Black Starlets tactically, I knew they will go far. It’s only a tactically deficient analyst that will not see the depth of technical know how in the game against Ghana. BIG UPS UGBADE, we know you were the brain behind Garba’s success at this U17 level. Best wishes in the final but the Burkina Faso players are big.

Bosso used overage players to win WAFU U20!! Lmao!! Later now y’all will be attacking the Ghanaians when they accuse you of age cheating. Nigerians are the problems of Nigeria. Most of the players that played the U20 WAFU cup are mostly Fatai Amoo’s boys that played the last U17 WAFU tournament and they went through the MRI process at the time. Even one of them is still in SS3 which means he’s not more than 18. The good thing is that we’ve made it to both the U20 and U17 AFCONS.

Most people complained about the number 11 Yahaya. Ay you are too big to be condoning cheating in football o. Femi Ajilore and the whole 2008 U23 Olympic team, where are they? We shd have outgrown cheating at U20.

Fatai Amoo camped the team secretly but Bosso was asked to lead them and he brought the old Yahaya and some of his boys. Fatai Amoo and Siasia are tiny most respected coaches in Nigeria because they went to Brazil and defeated their U23 squad.

I’m not condoling cheating. I’m f course I know this things happen everywhere on the African continent even in South America. It’s only in North America and Europe you can be certain of a persons age because of their sane system. However, if their paperwork verified their ages Na Sidon look I go dey. I just have to wish the team well. Let’s enjoy this moment that all our youth teams are making progress.
