Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has disclosed that he substituted Bukayo Saka in the second half because he needed something different against Bayer Leverkusen in Wednesday’s Champions League.
The Spaniard brought on Noni Madueke for Saka, who offered more threat and won the penalty that Kai Havertz converted in the 89th minute to earn Arsenal a 1-1 draw.
In a post-match interview published on Arsenal’s official website, Arteta gave an explanation of the decision to bring Saka off.

“I thought that we needed something else.
“Noni has been contributing and being a real threat and I decided to make the change.”
He also praised Noni Maduekwe, who won the penalty. “It’s not surprising. That’s his greatest strength. He consistently attempts bold dribbles and poses a threat to opponents,” Arteta added.
