Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams will feature in next month’s US Open after she received a wild card entry to play in the mixed doubles tournament with Reilly Opelka.
The 45-year-old Venus, who returned to the tennis tour last week after more than a year away, and Opelka were among the 14 teams announced Tuesday by the U.S. Tennis Association for its mixed doubles event on Aug. 19-20.
With the former world no. 1 on the preliminary entry list to the U.S. Open in the mixed doubles competition alongside Reilly Opelka, fans are dreaming of an almighty return to Flushing Meadows for the competition’s four-time champion in singles and doubles.

Venus accepted a wildcard for the WTA 500 event in D.C. to play her first competitive tennis since the 2024 Miami Open. It is not the first time she has been offered entry this year: the Indian Wells Open announced a spot for Venus back in February, before the former world number one turned down the wildcard days later.
“I’m just here for now, and who knows?” Williams said after her two latest tour wins via the Associated Press. “Maybe there’s more…but at the moment, I’m focused just on this. I haven’t played in a year.
“There is no doubt I can play tennis, but obviously coming back to play matches, it takes time to get in the swing of things. I definitely feel I’ll play well. I’m still the same player – I’m a big hitter, I hit big. This is my brand.”
