Villarreal are to exercise the option in Santi Cazorla ‘s contract to keep the playmaker at the club for next season.
The 34-year-old made a welcome return to El Madrigal last summer after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired, the playmaker deciding to move on from north London in the hope of getting his career back on track with the Yellow Submarine.

The former Spain international missed nearly two years due to an Achilles injury and subsequent complications before he made a triumphant return to playing last August and he has since gone on to make 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals. Having penned a one-year deal with the option for a further 12 months should he prove his fitness, the club have reportedly decided to activate the extension clause to retain his services.
Villarreal will be looking towards Cazorla to get them out of the position they currently find themselves in, Javier Calleja’s men having slipped into the relegation zone in La Liga, leaving them two points from safety.
