South Africa’s Banyana Banyana fought back from 2-0 down to force Côte d’Ivoire to a 2-2 draw, in their second Group B fixture of the WAFCON on Friday.
First half brace from Grace-Ruth Sery put Côte d’Ivoire in a very good position to seal qualification into the quarter-finals.
But second half goals from Thembi Kgatlana and Hildah Magaia kept South Africa’s hopes of qualification to the knockout round alive.
Sery opened the scoring in the 18th minute before adding the second goal in the 36th minute.
South Africa pulled a goal back in the 71st minute through Kgatlana and thought they had equalised in the 94th minute but it was ruled out for offside.
But in the 98th minute they eventually got the equaliser thanks to Magaia.
Up next for South Africa is a must win clash with Burkina Faso on August 4, while Côte d’Ivoire will battle Tanzania.
