Walsh Backs Rodgers To Improve Leicester

Steve Walsh believes manager Brendan Rodgers is the right man to take Leicester City onto the next level. Rodgers took charge of the Foxes in February following the sacking of Claude Puel and the Northern Irishman guided the club to a ninth-place finish, winning five of his 10 games in charge.

The former Celtic boss will be hoping to strengthen his squad this summer while also keeping the likes of centre-back Harry Maguire and left-back Ben Chilwell at King Power Stadium. Ahead of Rodgers’ first full season in charge, Walsh, who played for Leicester from 1986-2000, believes the current chief can lead the club onto bigger and better things.

“I believe now that the club has a manager who is young and ambitious and a man who can bring the right kind of energy which Leicester needs,” he told LCFCTV. “Last season was one in which some of the supporters would obviously have liked for us to be a little bit higher in the league, but progress was made on the football pitch.

“We beat some of the top teams. Admittedly we also slipped up against some of the others, but we’ve built a really talented squad who can push on now. They can beat anyone on their day, there’s no doubt about that, and I like the style of football which Brendan is trying to bring to the Club.”
