Lionel Messi scored in a record sixth-straight World Cup knockout match to help Argentina reach the quarterfinals after a stunning late comeback to beat Egypt 3-2 in Atlanta, ESPN reports.
Egypt were leading the defending champions 2-0 heading into the closing stages before Messi provided an assist for Cristian Romero in the 79th minute and then a goal of his own four minutes later to tie the game.
Just when it seemed that extra time was on the cards, Enzo Fernández headed into the net in the second minute of stoppage time to complete a remarkable turnaround at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

First and only time I’ve ever seen Messi cry.
Egypt did that.
Egypt made Messi cry like a baby. He shed tears of joy and relief when he heard that final whistle.
Messi and company must have thought it was over after Zico scored Egypt’s second goal. But the fat lady refused to sing, so they kept fighting, kept believing.
What a game by Egypt. They just have that never-say-die mentality. That’s why they’ve won so many Afcons.
The next Afcon is going to be a block buster. So many contenders, all believing they can win it, all believing that it’s their turn. If Egypt could push Argentina to the limit like this, you better believe they will bring that same energy and stubborn determination to the Afcon!
Congrats to both teams for giving us a memorable game of football.
