2022 WAFU B U-17: Golden Eaglets Defeat Togo, Pick Semi-final Ticket

    James AgberebiBy James AgberebiJune 14, 2022Updated:June 14, 202233 Comments1 Min Read

The Golden Eaglets recorded their second win at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 tournament in Ghana, after defeating Togo 3-1 in their second Group A game on Tuesday.

The win means the Golden Eaglets finish top of their group and have qualified for the semi-final.

Goals from Kevwe Iyede, Precious Williams and Substitute Fortune Aleki, help the coach Nduka Ugbade-led side record their second win of the tournament while Komi Ahouankpo got Togo’s goal.

Iyede opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Williams made it 2-0 on 24 minutes.

With 15 minutes left Ahouankpo pulled a goal back to bring the score to 2-1 but Aleki restored the Eaglets’ two-goal lead by making it 3-1.

Ghana and Togo will now meet on Thursday, 17 June, to decide who will join the Eaglets in the semi-finals.

The two teams that make it to the final of this year’s WAFU B regional tournament, will qualify for the 2023 U-17 AFCON in Algeria.

No one watches women football but the last WWC in France attracted an audience of over 1.1 billion and a record number of domestic viewing figures in many territories, including the host market of France, where, on average, over ten million viewers tuned in for French national-team matches. No one watches women football but your country fought so hard to qualify for WAFCON. No one watches Women football and you presented teams for qualifiers in all categories. You’re lost man. Poor argument, dumb propositions. In order to invalidate a good point, you say things that make you look stupid and uninformed.

Thanks Brother Selfie but I have to disagree with you. Women’s football has gain humongous traction over the years so much so that the United States of America’s FA has equalised the wages of both the senior male and female national teams.

Ghana would have gone far in Women’s football if not for Nigeria’s meddling.

Nigeria stopped Ghana from lifting the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 3 times: 1998, 2002, 2006.

To add insult to injuries, Nigeria then stopped Ghana from participating in a whole 2 tournaments: the 2022 Afcon and the historic 2023 women’s world cup, the first to be hosted by 2 countries.

If the reverse were the case and Ghanaian women had been the ones to inflict this perpetual injuries on Nigerian women in international football, YOU, MY WONDERFUL MR SELFMADE KING WILL NEVER LET US HEAR THE LAST OF IT.

But because our women have been battering and bruising Ghanaian women over the years, to you, NOBODY CARES ABOUT WOMEN’S FOOTBALL.

        How convenient!

Also, every footballer wants to be an Olympian. Lionel Messi fought Barcelona tooth and claw to attend the 2008 Olympics. After the senior men’s World Cup, the men’s Olympics (which incidentally parades 3 senior players) is next in profile after the senior men’s World Cup – fact.

Nigeria has Gold, Silver and Bronze whereas Ghana only has bronze – admittedly Ghana were the first African team to win an Olympic medal.

But you conveniently leave this out of your overall assessments because ‘Olympics is not a Fifa tournament’. That assessment is not acceptable. As you know, the Olympic games is the greatest sporting fiesta in the whole world, more higher in profile than the Fifa Senior Men’s World Cup.

So, there are 4 major global men’s football tournaments: Under 17, Under 20, Olympic and Senior Men’s football.

        – Nigeria has won gold in 2 of them.
        – Ghana has won gold in 2 of them.
        – Overall though, Nigeria has won more gold, silver and bronze medals in all men’s football tournaments across age groups compared with Ghana : FACT!

In Fifa and CAF women’s competitions across all age groups, Nigeria has won more gold, more silver and overall more medals compared with Ghana – FACT!

In the senior men’s football, Nigeria has attended more Fifa World Cups and has reached the knockout phase more times than Ghana, fact!

In the men’s Afcon, Nigeria has accumulated 15 medals compared with Ghana’s 10.

So, Nigeria’s dominance over Ghana is statistically undeniable in men’s and women’s international football.

Selfmade, let’s face it, there is a reason why you come here to goad us Nigeria fans, it is simple : Nigeria is bigger and better than Ghana in international football across gender and across age groups, FACT!

We love you all the same, though. 🙂

If not for Nigeria, Ghana would do easily have been the most successful African country in international football. We have caused you to operate behind our shadow and you find it hard to stomach.

Just look at the past 12 months. Black Stars could not defeat the Super Eagles over two legs. Thanks to away goals rule you scaled through.

However, we beat your under 17 convincingly (no away goals) even in your own backyard, we beat your under 20 convincingly (no away goals), our women beat their wives convincingly across 2 legs (no away goals). All WITHIN just 12 months.

What does that tell you? we are better than Ghana in football. Simple.

Yes, head-to-head, the Black Stars were better than Nigeria historically, but from 1994, we started to turn the table. Since 1994, Nigeria and Ghana “A” teams (not all these CHAN or WAFU nonsense) have met 15 times. Nigeria has 5 wins, 7 draws and just 3 losses to Ghana in that period.

In fact, Ghana’s “A” Black Stars team has been unable to defeat Nigerias ‘A’ Super Eagles team since 2011. The matches have all ended in draws including the 2 most recent world cup qualifiers. We will rather draw than lose to Ghana, even if it means losing out on a technicality of away goals.

We are starting to reassert our dominant position vis a vis Ghana. The days (like in the 1950s,60s,70s and 80s) of just rolling down and dying to Ghana are effectively a thing of the past.

I congratulate Ghana for qualification to Qatar, have fun there. But, for the purpose of the history books, Ghana’s ‘A’ team are yet to defeat Nigeria’s A team since 2011.

Given the short amount of time available to him and his coaching staff for camping, coach Nduka Ugbade has done very well. We don’t know how far this team can go but based on their performance in these two matches, they have done very well. One could see clear manifestation of good coaching which was clearly not the case with the U-17 set of two years ago. The lesson here which should have been learned a long time ago is that employment, appointment, invitation, selection, promotion, nomination, election and other things should be based on merit. When deserving people are put in deserving positions, good things generally happen.

What has our president done to you? Pls I respect your president a lot, I don’t want to insult him because it has nothing to do with a football discussion. You guys can win wafu u17 or beat sao tome 20-nil, you are not going to the world cup. Simple! Why didn’t you beat the senior ghana team just 1-0? You can only lord over teams like dat…lol. You guys are bullies, when you meet the real teams of Africa you collapse…Yawa team!

Yaw you and your Big mouth Charcoal fellow should better keep shut, always filled with ignorance and stupidity mixed in a bag of sack. Who cares about your presidency or whatever. Nobody sent you here all in the name of inferiority complex you both came here trying to redeem the nonsense image of your defenseless country that anyone can walkout on. All the Villagers from Nigeria looking for cheap money is filled in your streets because they can’t survive in Nigeria with such naivety but mumu Ghana that loves corruption money will give them a home to operate in the said business you both highlighted up there and collect bribe at the detriment of their nation and continent. These are exactly the reasons I left the manhole called Ghana because decent Nigerians with proper job and vision can not stay in such low life environment that occupants are not protected. I also know a few criminal brokers in Ghana that the authorities are using to dupe it’s people. Rubbish country led by a dwarf piglet. You nepios better gerrout and fear that name up there!

Are these Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles not home-based? Every country in the world recruits its Senior team from age-grade elevens these kids are the future Super Eagkes!Any Nigerian player who bypasses feeder teams to make the Super Eagles must show exceptional qualities. That puts to rest all these arguments about foreign and home-based.

Ghana has a good U-17 team. Unfortunately they are all too short, yet over-aged. What do they eat in Ghana that results in stunted growth?

All they eat is corn that is what they use to make the food they call Banku. That is exactly what has affected that ghetto idiot on this page that keep shouting Banku Bokom on this page. Ghanaians are sad people in general but they keep it up inside them and pretend it is well not until it kills them. They can’t be like Nigerians they’re such a bitter people that is why they try to seek our face. But instead of coming with a plea they want to use malign way just because we speak the same English. But they forget that Nigeria is a bigger country. It’s like Canada forcing to be equals with USA. This rubbish country and that all they do is try to make themselves poor or even juju themselves to death go on their website and see one of superstar celebrity who happens to be a drunker is trying to do against a lawyer who scolded her for flirting in the public. She’s called Afia going to a shrine to attack someone spiritually in broad day light and posted online for the world to see. Ghanaians are fake people with primitive mindsets. They talk too much that is why they can’t stay on thier forum but invade Nigeria so no one should be surprised why those two idiots and others are littered here. Let’s keep housing them like the animals they’re.

Look at this fool! Your entire movie industry has it’s foundation on juju. What is more primitive than fixing a bomb on your body and detonating it in a public place to kill innocent people? or going to a church and killing innocent people? Masa a Nigerian can’t call a Ghanaian primitive looking at what is happening in your country. What is as primitive as beating and burning an innocent lady because he cautioned that school platform should not be used to propagate religious activities? Kwasia! Talk about football and stop the stupidity. Gyimii!
