AFCON 2021: ‘How We Neutralized Simon, Chukwueze’  –Tunisia Coach

Tunisia’s coach Mondher Kebaier has explained how his team was able to neutralize the threats of Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze, in Sunday’s AFCON 2021 round of 16 game.

A second half strike for stand-in skipper Youssef Msakni was enough to seal qualification into the last eight for Tunisia.

The Eagles were unable to create any shot on target with wingers Simon and Chukwueze rendered ineffective in the game.

Simon in particular had been one of the stars of the tournament following his impressive performance in the group stage.

And reacting to his team’s win, Kebaier explained how the Eagles’ wingers were taken care of.

He also touched on another aspect of the Eagles game which they took advantage of.

“Today we came up with tactics to put pressure on the Nigerian wingers because they are very dangerous. And we also know they have difficulties when they lose the ball,” he said in his post-match press conference.

Tunisia will now take on Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals.

    __tunisian assistant coach.

No wonder two pple were marking Simon and Chukwueze.

    This man really studied us…

    Just look at him…

He’s Now proud that he beat us….

The downfall of a man isn’t the end of his life….

    We shall surely meet again.

    Wait till then.

  • Can you see tactical genuity all what we know is to mass attack mass defend and allow players to express themselves.

  • Nigerian fans are the most irresponsible, immatured and senseless lots I have ever seen. When they loose, they start wailing and crying like kids got their feeders taken away. It’s just a sport. You win some you loose some. The boys played well and if you can’t see that, use the transformer. Tunisians are righening now because their negative football worked lmao. We neutralized them my foot! But thats football. The better team don’t always win. We mouve

If it wasn’t for Eguavoen who didn’t know how to respond to the goal this assistant won’t be talking shit. When we clamoured for Dessers instead of Ighalo’s wasted slot we were attacked, when we questioned Noble’s invitation as a 4th keeper we were also attacked but I can’t lie the first 2 matches were good but we could see the intensity drop game by game. A tactically astute coach cannot ignore the fact that your star player(Moses) will be totally marked out as the competition progresses, I mean the whole world saw his displays in the first 3 games lol. I blame Eguavoen and then the backline for giving the Tunisian scorer too much space to take a shot. Eguavoen got carried away with praises and thinking other teams were fools and tactically unaware. The only reason I will say he should handle the play offs would be the hard lesson learned from this loss. I think Peseiro’s absence in Cameroon is dangerous for such task as there is no friendly btw now and the play offs.

And no familiarity with the players 2 months before a very crucial game. Just like us the Ghanians are wounded lions and face alot of rebuke from their fans….No note understating any team. Lose and you dont see WC for another 4 years and this might be the only WC opportunity some players will ever have in their footballing career.

Well, according to Eguavoen, he had been familiar with all the players for years, since he was Technical Director of the NFF. That’s what he told us when he took over.
        So, that’s not an excuse.

Eguavoen got completely outcoached and outsmarted. He foolishly kept on telling the whole world that Nigeria’s strength was in our ‘Wing play’. Well, common sense would have told him that good teams will work on neutralizing that ‘strenght’. And when that happened vs. Tunisia, the dummy didn’t have a backup plan.

If he remains against Ghana, Nigeria WILL lose.

Well spoken @Footballfanatic. I’m not a coach but after watching the game for 5 minutes in the first half and I was wondering why coach Eguavoen fails to change tactics in the second half.

If he have to be the man for the job, he should make his selections based on the current form. He should distance himself from NFF and agents.

These Ighalo, Akpeyi, John Noble can never help him to succeed in the Super Eagles. Imagine if we had any of Adeleye, Adeboye, Osagwe in goal yesterday, he would have made big impact. It is a pity. God bless Nigeria!!!

@omo9ja how on earth will a tactical genius change his tactics? I thought you said we will see total football and Mr no nonsense will do better than the outdated rohr? What happened na? I remember you saying that with the current players we have, any coach can win the AFCON except rohr. Well, me and you go watch our match against Burkina Faso on Saturday as we don enter quarter finals via total football. Nonsense. Nwakali, umar, awoniyi, olayinka and all the players you clamoured for were all there o

@benakay, blame Iwobi for his tackling. He would have made changes in that match.

If you noticed, coach Eguavoen was trying to use Iwobi to create chances for our strikers but unfortunately, Iwobi did something awful and Eagles got knocked out.

You know when things does not go the way we wanted then we have to blame the coach. I hope the coach and the entire team learned a lot from that match. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

He will not remain the coach. He is so stupid. We have sent Egue-yeye to Benin city possibly to Isiloko village, in Ovia North Local Govt Area. Prince Adun Akenzua wants to talk to the yesterday’s coach. Note that our great Prince was one our best Goalkeepers in the fifties.

You can’t compare black man with white man. Just like Nigeria vote out Jonathan and demanded for buhari. Today everybody can witness the result. Sacking a coach under 2weeks to great tournament is very wrong. NFF president suppose to resign but his a curopt black shithole. If its a white man, he will be honorably resign but black man will remain there and die there even implore his first son. Nigeria have capable football managing directors like Omenalor, Olofinjana, JJ okocha, kanu nwankwo.but corupt politicians and alcultic men in glass House will not allow them to put head. Look at how keshi die and Amudu shuabu, if you talk too much, they will come after you both physically and spiritually. Black man can never be white in every aspect.

That Coach was right. He had no problem thinking through the game as our game plan was same all through all our game . In the modern football no game is the same reason why dynamic display are common so much so underdogs are beating known teams. The Gambia coach varies team play ,the Comoros coach do the same reason why they are having fighting chance Even in a disadvantage point. Let this our local coaches stop saying u can’t change a winning team bcuz if u do dat then your team will be highly predictable and defeatable. No wonder rohr was winning games even if they don’t play well for his team u can’t not easily predict.
