Former Holland international Khalid Boulahrouz has slammed Morocco midfielder Brahim Diaz’s penalty miss against Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Recall that the Real Madrid star’s fluffed Panenka penalty saw host nation Morocco lose Sunday’s AFCON final to Senegal.
The winger had a chance to write his name into Moroccan folklore after winning a penalty in the eighth minute of second-half added time with the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal goalless.

It was a golden opportunity to end his country’s 50-year wait to lift the AFCON trophy.
But Diaz, whose five goals had propelled the hosts to the final, tried a ‘Panenka’ chipped penalty. It backfired.
Speaking with RMC Sports, Boulahrouz, who is of Moroccan origin, stated that he was disappointed with the way Diaz played the penalty.
“You’re not Zidane, you’re not Ronaldo, you’re not Hakimi. You don’t have that status.
“You may have scored five goals… but this is extremely painful,”
