Amuneke: I’ve Not Been Contacted By NFF For Super Eagles Assistant Coach Job

    Austin AkhilomenBy Austin AkhilomenFebruary 7, 2022Updated:February 7, 202227 Comments2 Mins Read

Former Nigerian midfielder, Emmanuel Amuneke has debunked reports that he has been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take up the post of the Super Eagles assistant coach.

Reports had emerged in some online media (Not Completesports.com) that the NFF had appointed Amuneke to join Augustine Eguavoen as joint-head coach of the national team.

The Super Eagles are officially without a handler after Eguavoen stepped down from his interim role following Nigeria’s early exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a chat with The Sun Sports, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner stated that no one from the NFF has contacted him concerning any offer.

“I’m not aware of any appointment with the Super Eagles or any job with the Nigerian government,” Amuneke, a former member of the Dream Team that won gold medal at Atlanta Olympic game told The Sun Sports.

“I just returned to my base in Spain from the CAF Technical Study Group duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, and I read the story of my appointment from the Internet.

“I was in the team’s hotel in Cameroon countless times, and there was no time the appointment was discussed with me.

“Right now, nobody has contacted me, not even the NFF or the Sports Ministry. Until an offer is made, I will rather not talk on that.”

I KNOW YOU FOR SURE THAT YOU ARE NOT A CARRIED-AWAY & PUSH-OVER COACH LIKE OTHERS IN NIGERIA. YOU ALWAYS FINALIZE YOUR DEAL BEFORE YOU TAKE OVER.
YOU ARE INTERNATIONAL MAN, DON’T ALLOW NFF TO TAKE YOU FOR GRANTED. IF THEY CAN’T PAY YOU ABOVE WHAT YOU ARE EARNING IN EGYPT AS EL-MAQASA TECHNICAL DIRECTOR AND IN CAF AS AFCON TECHNICAL ANALYST. THEN THEY SHOULD STAY PUT WITH THEIR OFFER. MONEY COME FIRST BEFORE PATRIOTIC. ATLEAST NOBODY LOOKS AFTER/ CARES ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU INJURED IN 1998. YOU ARE NOT AN HUNGRY PERSON.

Everything about a typical Igbo person is money no matter how it’s made…..If they can’t pay you more than CAF “Technical Study Group”, then let them stay put. Must money be everything? The more reason no one would allow an Ibo to be president in Nigeria. How can money come first before patriotism? I challenged Amuneke to refute such utterance in his next press meeting.

Even their Amuneke can barely express himself in English. I listened to his interview some time ago, boy it was shit. Well, Eguavoen is there to cover for him. However, that fellow must desist from putting money first. CAF TSG paid them only peanuts.

@Upiman, When will you guys stop lying. You said Amuneke can’t express himself well in English and he is working for CAF.
I have listened to Amuneke interview on Brilla FM and he spoke English fluently.

@Vincent UK… are you a ballfan or a politician. The way you group all Igbo people in your description above speaks about how miserable you are as a person… dont bring politics here. You talk as if you dont like money yourself… why dont you leave the luxuries of UK and go back to your nook of woods where you came from in Nigeria? We dont bring Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa talk here… we discuss football business here because it qualifies as religion to some of us… the next time you come here we tribal slander… we will run you out of this noble forum. We go at each other but only when it comes to football reasons only… please take you politics to Abuja and leave us here to hear word! It is an Igbo woman heading World Trade Organisation and you come here to badmouth a tribe that has such industrous people… or any tribe at all! Go to Ebonyi state and see what Dave Umahi has done there… we should preach what will bring our country together and not this your divisive comment as if an Igbo man has banged your woman before…. guy check yourself!

            Fool, shut up.
“Money first before patriotism” didn’t attract your attention but the response of VincentUK did. In fact, it is your Igbo that is still being ran out of Nigeria and not VincentUK. Amuneke said no one informed him even while he met with them in Cameroon, that should tell Amuneke he is not wanted but he is free to force himself on the coaching team. I think we should allow the Super Eagles to concentrate.

You are a Hypocrite @Dapo La. You bloody tribal bigot! Who does not consider remuneration & working conditions before accepting a job???

Can you elucidate on the meaning of PATROTISM???

Are you more patrotic than Coach E. Amunike?

Amunike has served Nigeria to the highest echelon as a footballer winning trophies and laurels for his nation both as a player and Coach.

You dare talk to a legend Amunike (one time African best footballer; I can see that you don’t have sense and lack proper home training.

When Mr Eguavoen’ agents and supporters were crying here for Egu’ retention as a Coach and asking for a 4, 5 or 6 years contract from NFF, was he suppose to do his job free of charge? Are the NFF officials not earning salaries on their job?
Don’t a labourer deserve his wages anymore???

Tribal bogots like you are the reason why Nigeria has remain backward in the committee of nation’s. Shame on you.

Mind you, you can’t curse who God has blessed.

For a so-called educated YORUBA person, you are an embarrassment.
And that is coming from another YORUBA person.

If you can’t rise above your primitive instincts at this late stage of your life, you are irrelevant, even to your hamlet.
If on the other hand you are young, then it is clear you are still an idiot and you are definitely not one for the future.

Your education is obviously not complete, which might explain everything, whether young or old.

        • josh on February 7, 2022 8:41 pm

This is the problem of Africa, not just Nigeria. A job is a job and it should be taken as a professional task. We apply familiarity and man know man to business and we want excellent result. It does not work that way. Who ever needs Amuneke’s service knows that he has something to offer. Currently, he has a job, so, anybody that needs his service must be willing to pay more than what he currently earns in his present job and if he fails on the job you fire him immediately. That is what is called professionalism! You can not want a service and be unwilling to pay for the market price of that service. It’s never done in civilized world.

Your HATE for a whole nation of people is very obvious, that you had to show it clearly by painting them black and then bringing tribalism into it, just because ONE MAN wants things to be done the right way. Hate is written all over this statement. It’s now a crime for a person to ask for a CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT to be made before he consents to a job. Illiteracy is really a disease. A contract binds two persons together and when broken, the law takes his cause. Every educated man would ask for an offer to be made, so that it’s legal and official and both sides don’t step on each other’s toes. You had to bring in your hate for the Igbo tribe. May God help your illiteracy bro. Please get some education. It’s because of people like you, that Nigeria will never move forward, people who would see tribe first, before a collective entity called Nigeria. The man says he won’t speak about a contract that has not been made until it’s made and then you had to drag a whole nation of people into your hate filled speech. It’s so sad. So a person announces me as an MD to a company without my consent, then I come out to say, I won’t talk about it until I’ve been contacted and an offer made to me personally to become the MD, with the appropriate things done, I become money conscious and unpatriotic? Bro, get some rest education please and stop showing your illiteracy in broad day light for the whole world to see. Shamefully, you don’t even know how to spell it correctly. It’s IGBO bro not ibo, illiterate!! Shame on you man! Shame on you and everyone else who would support this ignorance you’ve just spewed, again and again!! Respect to those who understand what Amuneke is saying and much love to those who will not drag tribalism into this, just because a man wants things to be done the right way! Smh

      NFF and their leaky mouths.

First they went to press to announce Peserio as SE coach when they had not even concluded negotiations and signed any contracts. I read they wanted him to pay his assistants from his pockets (the way Rohr was paying his own assistants too from his pocket after they stripped him of his assistants)….LMAOooo….bunch of Rogues….LMAOooooo. Lets see the world class coach they will employ and not pay his assistants…..LMAOooooo…You will never value what you have until you lose it….LMAOOooo.

Now its another imbroglio of amuneke or no amuneke we are hearing only for the man himself to voice out that no one has ever mentioned anything of such to him.

Another source says Eguavoen is vehemently kicking against drafting Amuneke into the SE as his assistant, how true that is, we dont know

The Ebere Eze and Tammy Abraham debacles are still indelible in our minds

When will the NFF learn to keep their mouths shut till things are signed, sealed and delivered like other professional FAs do…..??

That’s how foolish the people running our football are.

I wonder which coach will accept to pay his assistants like Rohr accepted to do them. They will never get a foreign coach like Rohr again unless they pay heavily and the pay the assistants too.

Is better they settle with Equavon, siasia,or Oliseh and get good assistants for them, whether home or abroad.

If Oliseh is not available, I will prefer Finidi George to Amuneke. At least Finidi is still active compared to Amuneke that has been without a coaching job.

NFF should do the needful and appoint credible coach be it Eguavon or Amuneke, so that SE can focus on the world cup qualifier against Ghana. The qualification of super eagles is very important.

First one must commend the honorable minister for finally putting his foot down and rescuing the country from another fraud from pinnick and his gang . For long, he has been blackmailed by NFF on “government interference and Fifa ban”.The zeal with which Pinnick pursued this issues of the employment of foreign coach is beyond patriotism.Clearly, there are Pecuniary considerations to it.I believed we have not heard the last of this Peserio matter. We will soon hear that for talking with him and making the announcements by NFF, there is a pay out of $5m.!

Secondly, when is the next NFF board election please? It is time for this current board to go as they have outlived their usefulness. They have ‘chopped enough’.we need a breath of fresh air, this time, the government should take a big interest on who becomes the NFF chairman.
