The Amuwo Games 2023 grand opening ceremony ignited the hearts and spirits of the community in a celebration of unity and the power of sports after a long wait.
The opening ceremony took place at the remarkable FHA Sports Field on 23RD within Festac town, a new venue different from the past.
Amuwo Games 2023 which is the fourth edition came alive with high expectations and a massive turnout of participants and spectators from all works of life at the sports ground.
In line with its line up of activities for the opening ceremony, the Torch Parade which symbolizes the spirits of sportsmanship was energetically carried by the Member of the House of Representatives representing the Amuwo-Odofin constituency, Hon. George Adegeye, and the celebrated former Super Eagles striker, Victor Agali.
Also in attendance was Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile, who joined in the torch parade, with other guests and dignitaries uniting the community through the spirit of the games.
A particularly touching moment during the ceremony was the tribute to the late Adeoye Adesanya, a beloved committee member who passed away two years ago.
In his honor, the Amuwo Games torch was named after him, symbolizing the eternal flame of his spirit that continues to inspire the community and hosting of the bi-annual Amuwo Games.
Seun Ayeni, the founder of Amuwo Games and LOC Chairman of the 2023 edition emphasized the event’s commitment to community well-being and empowerment and highlighted the “Say No to Drugs” campaign, a cause deeply embedded in this year’s games during his opening speech.
Various sponsors of the event expressed their delight in being part of this grassroots community-focused initiative.

One of the high points of the ceremony was the draw for various sports, igniting the excitement for the upcoming competitions.
The day culminated in a thrilling first football match between the Festac Unicorns and GRA Rhinos.
The match concluded with a penalty shootout, crowning the Festac Unicorns as the victorious team, leaving the audience electrified.
AmuwoGames 2023 has officially kicked off, promising a fortnight of community spirit, sportsmanship and unforgettable moments.
