Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface received his Golden Boot award after finishing joint top scorer for last season’s Europa League, completesports.com reports.

Boniface scored six goals for Belgian club Union SG who reached the quarter-finals before losing to his current side Leverkusen.

He shared the award with Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford.

Prior to Leverkusen’s Europa League fixture against Qarabag on Thursday, Boniface was presented with the award.

He went on to score and provide an assist as Leverkusen thrashed Qarabag 5-1 to record their third win in three games in the group.

It was his second goal in the Europa League and also his 10th in all competitions this season.

He will hope to continue his scoring form when Leverkusen host Freiburg on Sunday in the Bundesliga.

I’m not Edo but I agree with him in a way.. yes moffi is not from edo but the other strikers are free Edo state.. it seems there is something in their gene that makes them produce Nigeria best strikers..

Aside yekini who is from south West majority of the top 9 are from that Edo state, delta and from South East..

Even Musa the only northern that I can remember who did well for super eagles has his mum from edo state..

There must be something special in that Edo state.. sadly I have never visited Edo state before.. football scouts should not joke with anyone From there.

Note: this is not a tribe post.. I don’t have time for those things besides Edo isn’t my state and I have never been there before.. this is me just been truthful and Honest about what someone wrote here

You want to be people-pleasers,you have to be your most authentic person that’s my advice to you,and worry less about responses you get.

Bro, almost all these guys are born and brought up in Lagos . They’re Lagosians though they have Edo ancestry. They don’t even claim to be Edos.

Even edo have Yoruba ancestry both Yoruba and Edo have the same source. Oba of Benin can confirm this

Not sure Boniface is from Edo going by his name Okoh and Boniface. These are not edo names. Besides why must we always make things about tribe, appreciate the boy’s talent and move on. Our greatest striker is yoruba and not from edo, should we now say if we want the best strikers, the team handlers must scout in that region? Totally absurd!

This is not a tribal post! There is a genetic component to sport.. for example Brazil have a way of producing the most talented players and there must be something in the genetic composition of the samba boys that makes them difficult to mark With the ball..

Football greatest enemy is sentiment and corruption.. if we are being honest the best legs in Nigeria are from the south of Nigeria.. the northern though with the greater population have struggled to produce the best legs for the super eagles over time and through several generations..

I think they will perform better in track and field event…

An example is the female team.. a greater majority of the players are from the South and any attempt to disrupt this pattern might spell doom for the team and this wjy foreign coaches do better they select without the tribal bias..

I’m not edo,or the South south but look at how our strikers all seem to be coming from that geopolitical zone.. is it oshimen ( Edo), who replaced ighalo ( Edo) is it moffi ( akwa ibom) , Boniface ( likely south south) awoniyi ( Yoruba)..

We must play the best legs even if they come from only one geopolitical zone.. what matters is the team not where they come from!

That I appreciate a state that I don’t come from shows I’m patriotic! I’m not even from the south south geopolitical zone but I think that zone produces our best players.. we must not see everything as a tribal war! But rather we should accept truth and use it to our favor..

Ololo or olodo, I don’t blame you, I blamed the good folks wasting their precious time trying to educate you.is in ur DNA. I guessed Martins, Awoniyi are from edo or  delta. Talk of DNA the likes of Alaba, Saka, Musalla,Akanji genetically are from Edo.

You’re busy listing just Yoruba players. It shows you have a problem with @Ololo not identifying players from your tribe.

Either Oduduwa is from Edo or Edo is from Oduduwa is still the same thing Edos are yorubas , Yorubas are Edos. In the past it use to call western region ,it was politics that separated us. Even Oba of Ife must be the one to crown Oba Of Benin before he can becomes a king. Just like Mandarin and the Chinese community in Hongkong.

Edo State is awesome in all sphere of life. Edo people are accommodating,I attended Ambrose Alli University,Ekpoma. Handsome boys and pretty girls are abound there with quite interesting behavior to the best of my knowledge.
It’s an accolades for Edo to have good footballers.

The northern region is not producing female footballers or sportswomen, and this is primarily due to cultural factors, notably their adherence to the religion of Islam. Islam prohibits the exposure of certain body parts, which conflicts with the attire required in many sports and might not align with the values of many Muslim parents in the region. Additionally, most northern girls, especially in the core northern areas, tend to be more reserved and conservative due to their upbringing, emphasizing submission. Most sports require a level of assertiveness and dominance, which is not commonly emphasized in their training. Consequently, you will not find many northern girls participating in sports, with some exceptions in the north central and North East regions where Christianity has a greater influence. However, this doesn’t imply that we lack talented sportswomen in the north. If they are provided with the same opportunities as those in the south, it shouldn’t be surprising if Nigeria starts making progress in certain uncharted sports disciplines

@respect is reciprocal, the Oba of benin need no Ooni of ife to crown him, and stop talking rubbish, you have to stop where your knowledge ends, why is the mention of Edo triggaring your ego, did i compare Edo to anybody, i only acknowledge the progress of a particular Nigerian State, What are you crying about for, the yorubas are not Edo and Edo are not yorubas, our relationship is only between the monarch and not necesarily the people. Edo union with the yorubas is when Oduduwa a benin crown prince was exiled from benin to the west, mind you, Oduduwa is not the founder of yoruba nor the Edos these both nations existed long before Oduduwas birth.
Even the alafin doesnt need Ooni to be crowned king, it is the Oba of lagos that needs the Oba of Benin for him to be crowned And that is because lagos island was founded by the benin monarch. You are trying to reduce Edo before yorubas because of your ego and trabalistić mindset, tge name Edo trigars some of you agberoos in yoruba land, jelouse kinds like you, have made efforts to anihilate edo influence in yoruba land by writing different imaginative history to suit their trabalistić egos. Let me tel you Oduduwa is a benin prince that became a king in a yoruba land called Ife, its a fact and not your imaginations, however that doesnt make Edo superior to yorubas, it is just and incident and most be akbowledged, he didnt conquer the yorubas, his doings was loved by the ancient kind hearted yorubas unlike you and your fellow bigots, they choosed and crown him in ife and ife is not the only yoruba land, they have variouse kingdoms in yoruba land before Oduduwa riggim, but Oduduwa is the father of oranmiyan who is The father of the first oba of benin and also the founder of oyo empire, that is how oyo and benin became sisters empire, the benin empire of the Edos was the most powerfull and sucessfull empire from the entire westafrica region, its not what your emotions can change, the reason why oyo empire rose above all other yorubas kingdom in the west is thesame fact you are running from, which ololo clearly stated there is something special in the Edo blood, Oduduwa and his sons including oranmiyan, alafin, ooni, sango all of them carries the blood of Edo, igodimigodo. and that is why they are indeed special rulars of the western region of nigeria, you will agree that oyo empire is the most powerfull in the west, lagos today an island founded by the Edos, is the richest city in the owl of africa. Edo to the world, nor let am dey pain you, infact embrace it, let me further burst your bubbles, the Edos also found the onitcha and some kingdoms in anambra state of the igbo land, ask any igbo man they will tel you anambra people happens to be the reachest among the igbos, and onitcha happens to be the richest and largest commercial city in the east, nor be by mistake, it is the blessings of the Sun. Among all kingdoms and empires of africa, a nation was named after Benin, (ancient days dahomay kingdom,) currently called Benin republic by the french govment after the british efforts to delete Edo history, in reponse to the benin masacre. @sunny, will you go and kill your self because it was not named after awoniyi and oshoala.
Only rome(romania) and marcedonia of greece have nations named after them.
If you dont know, Edo Empire burder to the oyo empire is Ado Ekiti, that means the entire ondo and Ekiti are Edo lands not yoruba lands, despite yoruba migrants occuppied these states, some how Ekiti happens to be the most Educated state in Nigeria, another bangar from Edo, he dey shock you @Goldenchild, jealousy people. The Ooni, of ife with all due respect is the custodian of the home and shrine of Oduduwa who is the grand father of both the benin and oyo empires and that is why he is been respected, he is not crowning any of them and doesnt have any authority over them, but he will forever be respected in reference to Oduduwa. Everybody have a unique way of been beautifull and respected. I love the yorubas for their intelligence in approaches and their orderliness in culture and tradition, we as Edos are very traditional and native like the yorubas, we adopted each others gods and dieties, elders are highly respected in both culture. i also love them for their superior artistic nature in music and fashion, literature and drama etc. Rema is a benin boy and currently trending all over the world, no matter the numbers of awards and bangas he releases i can never rate him above Lagbaja a music icon of my time, whos musical talents communicates even with the spirits. I also love the igbos for their supernatural strength and compitent nature, the igbos naturaly raises the competition and put all contenders on toals, the igbo land is the Nigerian farm of human resources, meaning that if there is no other person to fill a gap, an igboman is always ready to occypy that space with little or no shaking, their women are very strong and beautifull, and they always outnumber every other Nigerians in most sportive and business activities, they may not come as the over all best but their majorities are always difficult to beat wether in benin or in yoruba land igbos are always competent even outside the nation, they bring it naturaly they are just blessings to Nigerians even if larry chooses to drink salt water. These are facts not tribalism, the hausa/fulanis are very unique people too, i love them for their reserve and careless and indesperate nature, i agree with the influence if islam in their culture. they are careless about the things we die for in the south, they just accept life as it is and allows their soul to lead it, though they have been highly currupted by southern influences, if the northerners do care about the vanities of the south like, like cars, mansions, eccess wealth, Nigeria would have been long gone, imagine that large population engaging in similar crimes of the southerners, Nigeria would be worse than sumarli, in conclusion every Nigerians are Special on their own collective and individual ways, acknowledging my State as a football making machine is not to bruce anybodys Egos, eccept the jealousy addicted haters.

Thanks @Toni, Nobody ever even reasoned Benue but see what they’ve produced. Among the top best forwards we’ve ever produced, we have Edos, Yorubas, we have Ibos etc
Yekini can’t be the best without Amokachi, Siasia, Okocha, Oliseh, Finidi, Amunike, etc Aghahowa , Martins and Yakubu enjoyed the presences of Okocha, Kanu, Utaka , Odemwingie, Ayila, Garbal Lawal , TJ Babangida etc. Ighalo and Now Osimhen is really enjoying the likes of  Iwobi, Simon, Iheanacho etc. Ibo can come out and name thousands of sport men for naija, @Toni just named from Benue, We’ve seen Edo up here and it’s no new that Yoruba has also dominated in the past(e.g Yekini, Odegbami, Musa Lawal, Martins etc), we even still have some performing well till date, we have faces from Calabar, Rivers , Akwa ibom, even our Hausa brothers had Garba Lawal, TJ Boy, Sadiq, Zaidu, Jamilu, Musa, Shehu, Alhassan Yusuf, Muazam. That is why we are all Nigerians  11 Osimhen cannot win Tournament, 11 Yekini cannot win Tunisia 94,  11 Emenike and Victor Moses didn’t win us 2013 cup of nations. All tribes had their Representatives under one Flag NIGERIA!
