A five-member delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has concluded a two-day inspection of facilities proposed by Nigeria to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
The delegation, led by Dr Christian Emeruwa, included Hervé Dassoundo (Commercial and Branding), Inas Ahmed (Travel and Accommodation), Salah Mostafa (Transport), and Mohammed Bakeer (Technology).
On Tuesday, the team inspected key venues in Abuja, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The inspection followed an earlier visit to Lagos, where the CAF officials, accompanied by five representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), toured the Eko Hotel & Suites, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre has been proposed as the venue for the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, while the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts is earmarked to stage the 2026 CAF Awards.
During their visit to the Wole Soyinka Centre, the delegation was received by the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Hon. Lekan Fatodu, alongside the commission’s Director of Sports, Mr Nunayon Travih.
The team was taken on a guided tour of the iconic facility by Mr Alex Njoku, Special Assistant to the Centre’s Director General, Ms Tola Akerele. Originally constructed in 1976 for the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC ’77), the venue underwent extensive renovation before being recommissioned in October 2025.
The CAF officials expressed satisfaction with the quality of the facilities inspected, stressing the importance of delivering a seamless, secure, innovative, and memorable experience for delegates and guests at both the General Assembly and the CAF Awards.
