Michael Carrick has said that he is “not desperate to become a manager”, after stepping aside at Manchester United for Ralf Rangnick.
The 40-year-old has been in charge of the Red Devils for their last two matches against Villarreal and Chelsea, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked in the aftermath of the 4-1 loss at Watford last month.
Carrick again led the team against Arsenal on Thursday night , and Rangnick is expected to be in position for Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace, having agreed to become the club’s new interim head coach.
The former midfielder announced he is leaving the club after the game against the Gunners , and he has revealed that he is “not desperate to become a manager”.

“It certainly hasn’t put me off but, at the same time, I’m not desperate to become a manager. I’m realistic,” Carrick told reporters. “The experience has definitely helped me from the lows and sadness, the first feelings of Ole leaving, having to adapt and get through the games.
“It has been a challenge but one I have enjoyed. You are never sure until you are put in a certain role what you might be good at or not good at. That’s life experience. You’ve got to go through it to learn from it. I’ve certainly learned a lot this week.”
Carrick has worked under both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer during his coaching career at Old Trafford.

With due respect to the SE team, I feel Carrick can also be a great option for us to hire.
I has dinner with the elders, and in recent time, he has proven what he can do as a manager as well.
Against all odds, where he could have been under pressure of sustaining the team as an interim manager, he did well by securing 2 wins and a draw.
He also has the managerial courage to bench who he feels might not work perfectly for the game and formation he intends to play.
Tactically, he can read games as well.
In essence, I feel Carrick will also be a good option for us to hire as a coach.

Carrick would have been a good option in normal circumstances. A young, sound coach who can read games. And he is unproven as a coach, so Nigeria would be a great way for him to showcase his coaching talent. A solid addition to his CV.
But our Naija situation is anything but normal. By the time NFF deck him left-hook and uppercut with 3 months unpaid salaries ehn, Carrick will run away like African Guardiola. He will run back to Manchester with his tail between his legs!
Now, if a consorium of wealthy individuals or corporate entities can come together to pick up the salary bill, it probably could work. The sponsors can put pressure on Sports Minister Dare, who in turn will cajole, impel or do anything required to get the NFF officials of their incompetent behinds and get them working to provide the basics that the SE needs. Good pitches for instance.
If they give Carrick a free hand to do his job (which means NFF should stay far, far away from player seelction), and give him a solid Nigerian assistant to help him with Naija things, I think it could work.
The biggest obstacle to the success of this idea is NFF ONIGBESE.
Very good observation @ pompei and @ walking. I thought I was only one that noticed Carrick was actually good as manger despite all the Ragnick and Ronaldo talk. He also proved that a coach with solid ideas tactically makes an instant impact on a team. Might not be to the level yet they might want due to not having the pessonel. But watching Man U after Solksjaer I could notice the difference in player movements on and off the ball. Their passes were more crisp and direct when they wanted. And they seemed like they actually knew what that tactical plan was more than under Ole. I know Nigerian and Rohr situation is different but some facts are facts wether at club level or national level. A coach with a clear idea on tactics, philosophy on how they want to play doesn’t take long for them to impart that knowledge. They also have an idea of what type of players they want and can fit that playing philosophy/system. 3 games you could see Carricks input, last season half way in we all saw what Tuchel did, even when Koop first got hired if anyone was watching Premier league then you could see his imprint already in that first season he just did not have the players that fit his playing profile which he corrected using the next transfer windows.
Another way you know a sound manger tactically is you are able to look at a player characteristics and be like yea that’s a Klopp type of player or Guardiola, or Tuchel. With Rohr I don’t get that confidence he even has a playing style in his head on how he wants the team to play. Even though Onuachu and Iheanacho may do well at club level they don’t fit the play style of majority of the attackers in SE. Onuachu and Iheanacho cannot play well consistently with Ejuke, Oshimen, Iwobi, Chuckwueze because of the speed mismatch. If your going for pace then it won’t make sense. Even watching Leicester before the whole seniorman craze yea I was happy for Iheanacho but I didn’t see him fitting that system long term unless Rogers tweaked it specifically for him. You could see many times their attack slowed down or he lost possession unnecessarily. I know this a bit off topic but I was pleasantly surprised that I’m not the only one that saw Carricks potential and makes sense he quit Man U and I have no doubt he will get another coaching job. I was a fervent Rohr supporter when he first started even up until this year. He started loosing me during those friendlies and lost me totally during this qualifiers. Sometimes arguing with his present supporters makes me even question are we seeing the same things or am I crazy. Seeing that others also see what I see too in football regardless of team means my assessment of Rohr is correct or not too far off
What does Carrick know about football that Finidi or Amuneke does not know? The way we are often awed by this whiteskin never cease to amaze me… let Amuneke/Manu/Finidi and Enyeama/Ikeme do the job… football is not rocket science! Nigerians of impeccable character and profile will do a good patriotic job than any Mercenary we wantto hire who will sit in England and waltz into Nigeria just 7days, sometimes 5days to a match and leave the moment the game ended… we go get sense by force… we just never ready to get am!

It’s a shame that with our size and economy, we cannot actually attract a top rates Football Manager.
What are we still doing with the BONFRERE and ROHR of this world???
