France’s national basketball team player, Victor Wembanyama, says the USA’s four-time Olympic gold medalist Kevin Durant is his favourite basketball player.
Wembanyama was pivotal for France during the recent keenly contested Paris 2024 Men’s Basketball Tournament gold medal match between his team and the USA, which the Americans won.

Answering questions as a guest on M6 TV, Wembanyama expressed his admiration for Kevin Durant, adding that he has loved watching the American star since childhood.
“Clearly, Kevin Durant is my favourite player from my childhood. He became my favourite player, and that moment happened after the game,” Wembanyama said.
After the Paris 2034 Men’s Basketball Tournament final, Durant was seen consoling Wembanyama who was crying on the bench. The French star explained the moment he shared with Durant.
“We congratulated each other, and I made it clear that I wanted to learn from him and perhaps steal a thing or two from his secret techniques,” he explained.
Wembanyama emerged as the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year, finished second in the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year voting to compatriot Rudy Gobert, and became the first rookie ever to be named to the All-Defensive First Team.
